Is it who lays the most ammo into a enemy or who does the most damgeing blow?
For example If it was a freindly p-51 and I chasing a con........ I light up the cons wing tip rip it off, and as the con falls to earth the freindly P-51 shoots him as he falls is it the 51s kill or mine?
So basicly im asking even if i rip of a cons wing vertical stab rudder...exct its not my kill couse i failed to lay the most ammo into him yay or na?

If the other guy hit the pilot, he gets the kill. I am pretty sure other than a pilot hit, it's the type and amount of ammo put into the plane! For instance, if someone had two 30mm cannons on a plane and you had two 50cal bullets, he would get the kill!:aok

good to know thanks!

Always aim for the pilot anyway as it takes a whole lot less ammo.
By the way I was just trying out that 152 when you shot my wing off with your B24. Normally Id be above you in a P51 or I wouldnt attack. I was impressed by your approach on our ordinance and your efficiency at taking them down in one pass. Not easy on a medium field.

lol thanks chalange!
I was wondering what u were doing in that 152 coming straight on my 6 like that lol o well right live and learn.
O and about taking out all 4 ammo bunkers and one barrack in one pass thats a relust of many hours offline practicing lol
Now for the gunning skills i have to thank 999 and tatertot for those i used to be in there squad and we pretty much flew buffs threw furballs was loads of fun and helps gunning big time.
Chalange:aok

Its the amount of *damage* made (by damage points) that determines who gets the kill. If three people each shoot one SINGLE round into a con, the one with the highest calibre gets the kill when he augers.
AFAIK it has *nothing* to do with which part you damage or if you do fatal damage to any part.

Schatzi gave the correct info as usual. By the way, kinetic energy factors on plane damage also. The faster the closing speed of the bullet on the plane, the more damage it is capible of doing. With cannons, blast radius is also a factor. By that I mean the more plane surface around the point of impact, the more damage it can score.

yesterday, i shot down an la7 which appeared undamaged - no control surfaces missing, no smoke etc. from 200 yards with a volley of 30mm from a Me262... he explodes instantly,"assist"

I've gotten assists with a 37mm vs. fighter. If I can kill a undamaged fighter with one round.......how do I get an assist? The 37mm should impart more destructive force into the target than anything short of a tank round.
The only thing I can think of is that if a target is 95% damaged the 37mm adds the 5% to complete the kill and the other 95% of the destructive force is not counted.

Exactly.
I've nailed the pilot on several occaisons and only got an assist for it. I've also lit guys on fire and didn't get a kill, either.
Spitfires in particular are bad about losing kills against. Their wings are so fragile a half-second burst of .303 fire is enough to knock one off. Because of this, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to put enough damage into the wings to counter a bunch of 20mm hits to the fuselage that may not have done ANYTHING.
I think type and location of damage SHOULD get weighted, depending on how critical it is. Something like, putting some holes in the fuselage that doesn't do any telling damage is x1, wing hits are x1.75 or x2 or something like that.

Nope the pilot is just another "plane part" that can be damaged to the point of failure. Shooting the pilot doesn't mean you get the kill. Doing the most overall damage to the plane means you get the kill.
