Title: Is Airwarrior still available?
Post by: Cramby on August 01, 2006, 06:44:32 AM
Hello guys I am new to the game and it is very difficult for me to play. I've remembered Airwarrior when I played the game on AOL and I had a blast with it. The relaxed realism arena was great but this game doesnt have it. I am always stalling my plane in the game lol. This game is great but it is too difficult for me to play and I dont really have the time to play the game and learn it as I am on a very tight schedule. I would pay for the game but I dont have the time to learn it. So my question is that is Airwarrior still available and if not what other global flight sim can I play as well? Thanks guys

Air Warrior's death took place about 4 years ago.

There's a few other combat flight sims out there but none come close to matching up with Aces High. You might want to go to the Training Arena for some help; that is if you can find the time.

Cramby, the issue with AH2 is that you only get a 2 week free trial, but the learning curve is (bare minimum) 2 months. 2 weeks is just enough to get you hooked.

If you're stalling out everywhere, there are several steps you can take to help yourself learn a LOT faster.

First, go into options, preferences, flight, and check the box labeled "stall limiter". You can also turn on "auto takeoff" at first, just to get yourself into the air faster.

Second, fly a spit MkV. Or MkVIII (more power, both fly pretty easily). These are some of the easiet planes just to fly. They hardly EVER stall, they let you get away with murder, and are total UFOs (that is, they both have the most forgiving flight model -- to the point of me questioning their historical accuracy).

First you need the basics. You can do this offline. You need to be able to take off, fly level, climb, make a basic turn, a dive (and pull up and survive) and to be able to slow down and (later, eventually) to be able to land.

Once you get that you can go to 8 player rooms to practice here or there, if you don't have a subscription by this time. If you do get a subscription, the Training Arena is a better place, as often folks will take an active hand in helping you do things.

Just some tips to help a beginner, or anybody that reads this later looking for the same information.

I hope you'll stick with it. Maybe do your flying off-line until you get the hang of it , then fly on-line.

I think even Warbirds............. (Sorry for cursing HT) , did away with their easy mode flying.
Keep at it , you'll be glad you did.:aok

Most of the trainers are available evenings. You can arrange a time by dropping an e-mail to trainers@hitechcreations.com

A number of players also assist newbies. If you see Schatzi in the TA, she's always helping folks out. God Bless her!

Cramby...

I go into the TA every now and then to decompress (I get kicks outta flying big planes through hangers and reverse parking B-17's)...

If you see me in there feel free to ask any questions...

Cramby, welcome.

Indeed, turn on "stall limiter", "autotakeoff", and fly Spitfires for now.  Once you are more comfortable, you can click those features off.

You can also fly bombers -- still fun, but much different skill set than air-to-air combat flying.  I enjoy bombers a lot as well as fighters.

Trainers are frequently around.  However, if they aren't, e-mail some to set up a time, or you can go into the main arena and type on channel 200, asking if anyone is willing to come give you some advice in the training area.  My guess is that you'll get a volunteer willing to hop over there and give you some pointers.

Well, It is more complicated than Pong.......So I would guess that if you don't have time to play the game you probably shouldn't waste your time to learn any of it.

Didn't play Airwarrior if full realism arena did you.

That wasn't nice.

Keep in mind that once you LEARN Aces High, you never LEAVE Aces High.

Landing is overrated.  I just aim for the runway and let er go.

Or if im bored, I will fly upside down and try to make a landing that way

flying upside down into a landing strip is not always a healthy choice!:O

Cramby, I help you train :>

I train many dweebs, two week wonders, and the rest
of the AH population of would be fighers aces
to DIE and learn to love it as well as to lower their self esteem :)
I am good trainer in those subjects.

Come to main, listen to myth that Chi's ez to kill and
learn the the truth when you stand toe to toe, alone with
me and learn the truth that.... not all myth's are to be belived.

You've just proven what we've known all along Chia-Pet...you're incredibly stupid.

Oh...it's not a myth but a proven fact.  You are easy to kill, vulching a C-47 on take off takes more skill to shoot down.  But you do provide us much needed laughter as it's always fun to laugh at the village idiot.  Now at least you won't be lonely as you're have Revor/Cramby to keep you company.

Practice offline first. Start with the Dweeb... I mean spitfires, and FM2 first

Both very forgiving planes and easy to fly. Then work your way through the plane types.

You may stall and spin out a bit at first but eventually the fling will become as second natured as RR was in AW.

I rarely spin anymore cept occasionally in a 110.

In fact I dont think I can even make a plane go into a spin anymore even if I wanted too.

Eventually you will get pissed off as I did.
Not at AH
But that AW wasnt more like it

Drediock, it was a troll. It's one of Revor's many clones. See how Skuzzy banned him for having discussions with himself?
