Okay, I've set one up. Its the AH Fantasy Football league. Automated draft (don't forget to prioritize your picks before August 11th)
Aug. 11th is the draft date.
Join by logging into NFL Fantasy Football website (http://www.nfl.com/fantasy) with a user name, create your team name, then select AH Fantasy Football league, or just click the link below and follow the instructions:
http://freemeeting.0.football.nfl.com/splash/invite/2398/48814/04651c6e6520ba476a9985bfc80e6c99
Ripsnort has invited you to join a NFL.com Fantasy
Football league! To accept this invitation and join the
league, click this link (or cut and paste the link into your
browser's address field):
http://freemeeting.0.football.nfl.com/splash/invite/2398/48814/04651c6e6520ba476a9985bfc80e6c99
Before you join the league, you'll be presented with key
information about the league, including the draft date,
draft type (live or automated), current league members and
league type (private or public). If this is a private
league, you'll be required to enter the following password
before you can join the league. A password will not be
listed in this e-mail if this is a public league:
Keep in mind that each NFL.com Fantasy Football league is
limited to 12 members, so it's possible the league could be
full before you have a chance to join. If that happens, or
if you're interested in a different type of league than the
one you've been invited to join, you can easily scan other
open leagues or even create a new league yourself.
We hope you enjoy NFL.com Fantasy Football. Have a great
season.

Dont know the first thing about them.
Always looked kinda interesting. Just never got around to actually participating in one
-
or how about a suicide football pool?
how it works..everyone puts in $ amount, like $100 for the full season. Get 100 people in, that makes pool $10k.
Before games are played each week, person has to put in 1 team they want to win, no point spreads, just straight up winner. If your team wins, you advance to the next week. If team doesn't win, you are out for the season.
You can only pick a team once during the season. After you pick a team, you can no longer pick that team for the remainder of the season.
At the end of the season, whoever is left splits the pot. At any point, if unanimous, the pot can be split by all remaining players. Example, if 5 players remain in week 14, they could all decide to split the pot.
I played last year, had 370 entries for $37k. I went out in like week 10. I think 7 people made it to the end. Same group this year is trying to get total 700 to play. Definately makes gameday bit more interesting.
-
can you name someone here you would trust with the money to not take it and run?
other than seagoon i can't
other than that, i really like that suicide pool, never heard of that.

I didn't either until last year. Easy to do, simple to maintain, try it, you'll like it.
-
If only I had time, I would play.
But unfortunately, some of my favorite players in the world are not starters. And if I can't pick them, I won't pick anyone else in their place.

I was talking about BigGun's pool idea. I might talk to the people @ work here, 50 people @ $50 is a $2500 pot, and $50 for the whole season is not a huge investment ;)
as far as fantasy leagues, I am terrible at replying to trades before gametime, not having internet @ home, and it's not real important to me... it's a kind of "pick some guys and stick with them all year and forget about it" for me.

Time? The time it takes is about 5 minutes a week...even I can do that! Come on! ;)
-
I still say suicide football pool...just need to figure out who to hold the money in escrow & manage the picks...all the time it takes is to pick one team...and make sure you don't pick same team twice. Strategy is when to pick marginal teams..

Gambling is illegal. :p

I'll play if I can have one of Rip's world famous "Rip'd" burgers!!

My other league drafted early July. I think early drafts make tradeing, and add/drops a bigger part of the game. To me thats where the real fun is.

Those would be "keeper" leagues, big difference. I mean, whatever, its an even playing field for everybody, just saying.
Suggestion: it'd be nice if everyone's registered name was their UBB handle from here, makes it easier to know who's who. Easily changed for those who have their real-world names up - from the league screen, click "Options", change the "Your Name" field, click "Submit".

I'd like to try it, but have no idea how it works (not the signing up part, but the actual fantasy play thing) and dummy me cannot find anything about how it works at that WEB site. Any links to explain this stuff to a newb?

This may help (http://football.nfl.com/splash/football/nfl/single/rules)
-
Yep, Pucks got it.
In a nutshell for easy maintenance, each week you are sent emails from the NFL Fantasy league giving the status of your pre-selected (by draft) players. You simply make sure that the player you have, for say, the 2 QB positions your team carries, are both playing in the upcoming week (No BYE week). You confirm your roster and the outcome of the game does the rest. Points for how many yards, TD's an offensive player has. Defenses are a total of yards allowed, points scored, and Special Team scores. Its really very simple, I was intimated by FF for years until me brother in law convinced me to join a league. Takes about 5 minutes of your time each week to maintain your league, or you can spend endless hours researching players and doing trades with others, or putting your less-than-expected players on the Waiver wires and picking up new players to replace them.
If I'm not mistaken, you get something like:
1 QB's
2 WR's
2 RB's
1 TE
1 Kicker
1 DST (team defense and Special Teams)
The points they produce week in and week out affects the results that your team produces.

Just some interesting numbers not that they mean anything.
The average "cost" of all our teams in the pro "auction" leagues. 100 points to spend per team on a 14 man roster.
NM Geeks 145
kewlarrows 134
Hellcats 127
DireWolves 126
ClevMan 119
We Suck 115
Rhode Island BrowTines 97
Slackers 92
Grapevine WineOhs 91
Jolly Rogers 90
Dirt Devils 1 89
Rough Riders 77
How the hell did I get 5 consensus top 35 players in a 12 team league?????
I better do well or I'll be laughed out of the fantasy community. :D:D:D
Or the injury gods have a big surprise in store for me and just wanted to tease.
Bulger, Marc
Green, Trent
Davis, Domanick
Johnson, Larry
Jones, Kevin
Wayne, Reggie
Johnson, Andre
Owens, Terrell
Smith, L.J.

Can live with this team.
I sure hope I draw the Rough Riders on Seattle's bye week. :D:D:D

Smack talk:
We auto-drafted, so it didn't matter if anybody was in town or out :)
Kerry Collins isn't even on a team, he's on a couch :D
This is about football, you are about to be schooled! :t

Being on a similar couch I felt a kinship with Collins...
I wonder how long befoire I really would have checked?

The schooling has begun...
The Ravens did me proud... Billick is a high school classmate BTW. (OK he was a couple years ahead of me, but still in the same school at the same time)
-
Well, looks like Rip screwed the pooch on the first week. No way I should have won that game. Still learning the ins and outs of this stuff, but this second week looks pretty interesting. I am going to get my arse handed to me in a big way.
Considering all my guys are middle-of-the-road players (cept for my defense and kicker), I ain't feeling too bad.
I totally screwed up in the draft. Had no clue exactly how it worked and just made bad choices. Ah well. Live and learn.
-
"Screwed the pooch"
A)I felt sorry for the rookie with a grey beard so I gave him his first win.
B)I love doggy style, just didn't expect to be the receiver.
-
LOL!
-
By the way, Skuz, your new nickname is "The Stabler" because you look like Kenny Stabler. :p

In our league, the coach ranking pretty much means you have crappy reserves :)

Yeah I missed the draft, so thats what I ended up with from the draft bot. I did what I could with it through the season, but never could get it going. Had fun trying.
I will be moving to the play-offs in my other league. :aok
