The PLO is their own worst enemy.

It certainly doesn't give a true picture.

For example, the claim that the "Arab decision to invade in 1948" caused the refugee problem is blatantly untrue, as there were already a lot of Arab refugees before that. For example, Jaffa was attacked and conquered, about 60,000 Arab refugees, Haifa was conquered, another 50,000 or more refugees, a corridor was driven through the West Bank to Jerusalem, more refugees.

All before the state of Israel was declared, and the neighbouring Arab armies attacked.

The simple truth is neither side accepted the borders of the UN partition plan, and the Jews, being much better organised and armed, went on the offensive long before their independence to increase, by force, the land that had been granted to them under the UN partition plan.

It also says that most of the area allocated to Jews was desert, without pointing out that Jews comprised 30% of the population at the time of partition, and were granted 55% of the land under the partition plan (ie the Arabs comprised 70% of the population, the Arab state was granted 45% of the land)

I think it started approximately 1 brazillian years ago, when the first two proto-human beings entered the Middle Eastern desert...
...and tried to kill each other.

Hasn't changed since...

For those who are interested, the following site offers a fairly comprehensive look at the events leading to the creation of Israel.

Despite the source, it is more even handed in its treatment of the topic than one would think, and serves as a good introduction to the major players, ideologies, and political movements within the Arabic and Zionist movements.

The commentary condenses a subject that has all the complexity of a Gordian Knot into lucid English text which can be read in little more than thirty minutes.

Actually the temple of Solomon was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC.  It was rebuilt a couple times but was razed for the last time by the Roman general Titus in 70 AD.

But yeah, I agree that contention over Jerusalem over the years by different cultures is at the heart of the Middle Eastern problems.

There were dinosours fossils found in Bet-Zait near Jerusalem and a cave of early homo-sapiens on the ride just south of Haifa. Scientist belive both are dated earlier than 1250 BC.

Mel Brooks??  No way!  Say it ain't so!  He always seemed like such a nice guy...

Imagine how much different the world would be if, rather than try and kill each other, those first proto-humans just succumbed to a bout of self-gratification instead...:D

Can't trust anybody anymore, can 'ya...;)

I heard Mel Brooks got caught drunk and driving? Or was that some other Mel?
Some in the media seem in favor of lynching him. I guess they never got over his highly controversial film "Spaceballs".

And unfortunatly there are still some dinosaurs on both side of the fence ... and both wear beard and read only one book.

Btw I was reading an article last night and I've been pretty surprised to learn that the Harédim représent now 8% of the whole population (and still 0% of tsahal I guess ) ...
