I felt it was time to make a skin, just to see if I could, so I trawled through the web to find one that hadn't been made yet and would be something I would be interested in making.
I came up with this, used by the 65th;
P51D Skin (http://sepsy.de/USAAF-jpg-Planes/Mustang-P51D-NZAFund_RAF.gif)
However, this is all the information I can find on the plane and the dating has me worried that it wasn't used in the 2nd WW.
I don't want to waste my time on making something un-usable, so....
Could someone help a fella out? Is this a genuine P51 skin of WW2?

65th had Mustangs in WW2. IT looks to be accurate and April 45 is still wartime.
I'll see if i can find a photo of it later today.

Check this out, looks like they used them from March 45 til June 45.

They were also part of 2TAF so the upperwing roundel is the 3 color version.

65 had Mustang IIIs first (P51Cs) then got Mustang IVs. They were part of the Wing at that flew escorts to the Mossies going to Norway with 19 Squadron.
Here's a photo of two of them at Peterhead Scottland.

Thanks for the help guys.
I had a couple of hours this afternoon to play with it and came up with this.

Still the rear wings and lower back of the aircraft to do.

Me likes, any chance you could slap some invasion strips on that. That was a joke !
But I really do like it !

Thanks Kaz!
Got the rear sorted, just gotta tidy up around the edges.
So what d'ya think? Have I got a shot at getting this accepted? It was an enjoyable thing to do (make the skin) and for a first try at it, I'm not displeased with the result.

Is that 1024x1024?
I think it needs a bit of work, but you've got a chance.
One thing I notice is that the panel lines and details are disappearing under the paint. Might want to make sure these layers are on the very top, over all the color layers.

Camo isn't right, check out the RAF Pony D I did, or the Spits. (Pony D is on ah-skins I think)
Demarcation lines were fairly standard between RAF fighters.
Also good RGB values for colors at
http://www.simmerpaintshop.com
Uppers - Dark Green, Ocean Grey.
Lowers - Medium Sea Grey
Sqn codes and tailband - Sky Type S
Serial number - Black

I used the colours as they appeared in the first link I gave Kev.....
Wait, are you saying the pattern is the same as the RCAF pony you did, or the colours, you're talking al technical again Kev, I asked you not to do that. ;)
Timeloop: Yeah, it's 1024x1024. The pixelation is cos I cropped it in MS paint on my daughters computer in a fit of lazyness.

Yup pattern is the same, more or less, allowing for invidual 'flair', lol.
Obviously there would be some variation as it wasn't applied using masks.
