Man you raise them right, nurture them, push education and give unconditional Love and support.
Seems when they turn 17 their brains take a break and logic escapes them.
When a 17 year old child lies to you in front of a Police office the next step is the Army Recruiters Office.
This burned my arse bad, I raise my children well..peer pressure and she couldn't say no and had my 7 year old Son with her. She told the police officer that her Mom and Dad cant speak English. The Police Officer called and asked if I spoke English..hell yeah that and German, Korean, 2 Dialects of Chinesse and a lil Spanish. My wife is fluent in Korean and English.
So here I am 3:30 in the morning talking to Police, which were cool about the whole thing. They were gonna put my Daughter in Juvvie and my Son in DHS...
Now here is a Daughter on the National Society Honor Roll, Honor Student and writes for the local Paper her dream is to be a Journalism...she was watching my Son and went to a party that got raided by the Police.
She is beyond grounded....cell phone, car...gone.
It's tough to be a Father at times.

Hehe!
They can be beeeerrrry iventitive.
A couple of days ago a friend was moaning and groaning over a small thing his one daughter had pulled.
I spent about thirty minutes telling him the joys and adventures I had raising four.
He seemed to feel a lot better when I was through. :)
After they reached a certain age the boyfriends were my one source of pressure release. I think that`s why my blood pressure leveled out. :)
One boyfriend stole my car, then threatened my wife after I caught him. (That was a great little session of pent up anger release. :))
One stole my boat and was missing with my daughter over night on the lake. He made a couple of small mistakes though. The first was leaving his souped up pickup in my driveway. :)
The second was was letting me catch him on shore the next morning. I took him for a little ride that I`m sure he will always remember................in the truck bed....in his pickup. :rofl
-
Your 17 year-old daughter took your 7 year-old son to a party that got raided?
Ouch.
-
I have raised two beautiful heart breakers, the stories I can tell are enough to make a week interesting... Thier choice of boyfriends has been catastrophic at best and I always seem to be the ex boyfriends favorite target... They have come at me with guns, knifes, cars, and various forms of furniture over the years... They have broken into my house, stolen my belongings, credit cards, cash... Blown up my stereo several times.... I have been forced to appear in weddings that even would make jeff foxworthy laugh....
When the best mans speech begins with "getrdone" and ends with "Getrdone"
Run for your life...
Moving to florida has to be the biggest mistake I have ever made....

It`s all in how you calmly explain things to them. :D

Thankfully those days are over.
They have all turned out pretty well and now I get to play with the grandkids........then send them home for some payback. :rofl

kids are over rated
if I had to do it again, i'd probably just get a couple of puppies..

I don't understand why she had your son at a time of night when a high school/college party would start? If he's seven, how late does the bugger stay up?

I'm assuming she was babysitting. At least she didn't just leave him.

Highschool partys never end...they just run out of "supplies" and and starts up again once more show up.
Boy, all you fathers tell horror stories of your daughter's boyfriends stealing and getting violent. It must be different around here because I have never heard of that. I personally am better friends with some of the dads then my ex's. Must be different around here.

Why do men agree to make people for their wives?

because they're not thinking with the Big head.

Hehe! I think I should have hung a sarcasm tag on that one.
No, the trick in the explaining is ....how good the health is now and how bad it can become very quickly under the right circumsatances. :D
Take for example the first instance I mentioned. I knocked his gourd jelly loose. When he came back to this world somewhat, I kicked his sorry butt out the door, none too gently.
He stopped at a convienient store in a small town not too far up the road. The local Barney saw he had a little blood flow probelm and talked him into filing county charges to the tune of assault with bodily injury.
One small talk with him later and he was able to see the error of his ways and drop the charges.
All things can be worked out if you know how to explain things to an unexperienced individual. :)

There is no greater joy than that of raising children. They bring completeness to an otherwise dull and meaningless life.
Er... at least that's what I kept telling myself to keep from killing them in their sleep.
:)

It's amazing, but they all seem to grow a brain sometime around age 20-21.
Hang in there.

You know, she was hoping you'd speak in one of your other langauges to help her get out of a bad situation.
Perhaps she knew she fluffied up and needed your help somehow?
-
A friend explained the problem to me this way:
Around the age of 14, aliens slip into your house at night and steal your child, leaving behind an evil doppelganger.
You don't get your real child back until he's 21.
-
Mom is in her room now reading her the Riot Act, the ABC's, the Monroe Doctrine, Gettysburg Address in Engrish and Korean..soon it will be hair pullin and slap down time. There's nothing worse that an Asian Woman pisssed off. And for my Daughter to tell the Police that we don't speak Engrish just lit Moms fuze even more. My oldest Daughter in Houston said if she was up here there'd be not doubt about an assss wippin.
Callin the Army Recruiters office today.

So your kids are smart enough to know right and wrong, but still choose to lie. Send them to the army. If they are really as smart as you think they are, they will succeed. And in 4 years, if they have straightened up and learned some discipline, they can go to college for free.

"Send them to the Army"
Kinda think she MIGHT have somewhat of a say in that...
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Judging by the "my parents don't speak English" line she gave to the cops, I'd say she's not very experienced in this sort of thing.

Not much to it other than what was above.
He ended up getting 10 years vacation time provided by the state about a year after this little incident. He had a habit of borrowing things out of peoples homes that they didn`t lend him.

Kinda think we have found another one who doesn`t understand that things can be explained to you in such a way that you will see the light. :)
P.O. a lot of Moms and Dads off enough and it is not "time out" or coddling time.
Good luck Mac. I feel for ya bro. Been there, done that.

If you were my father, and you tried to pull that **** with me, it'd be straight off to the bong for me.
"Sooooorry dad, guess I'll have to wait another month :D "
My father was all about "spare the rod and spoil the child" too, it didn't work any better then "coddling..." I'm still a screw up :aok :D

To start with, you don`t try , you do.

You know, I really would be pretty darn interested in hearing how you'd do it. I'm being serious here... I'll be a father some day; it could come in handy... What would you do? How would you explain it?

taking the 7 year old with her was beyond stupid.
""They were gonna put my Daughter in Juvvie and my Son in DHS...""
for what?

Not at all. I just don`t care to go into it with you as it is totaly irrelevant.
At this particular time in your young life, you assume you have most if not all of the answers. We all did.
You will grow out of it about the same time reality starts to set in. :)

I'm pretty sure I know damn next to nothing and invincibility is only a word in Hollywood. Carry on.

well they will get thiers when they grow up and have kids that are just like them. justice is sweet

Only words of advice is to let the dust settle a bit. My bet is she'll be walking the line for quite some time as I bet she's scared to death she's burned all her bridges with you in terms of trust etc.
Overreacting on your part is only going to make it worse. Sometimes underreacting is much more effective. She'll probably feel like she's completely failed you for a while.
Yes being a Dad is tough at times, but it's still the most rewarding job in the world and I wouldn't go back and change a thing or avoid one conflict that I had with them as they grew up. Those tough times always lead to better times.
And this is despite the fact that on the 28th of this month it will be one year from the day my oldest son and youngest girl were killed in a car wreck, I wouldn't not have had them despite the pain of their loss that will never leave. They could piss me off, but they were the greatest gift I ever had.
My youngest would have been 17 this September. I'd give anything to have to put up with what your daughter tried to pull with you, because it would mean my daughter was still here and still my little girl.
Just trying to throw a little perspective on it as I head back upstairs to watch a movie with my one surviving daughter.
And yes it's tough to be a father some times.

My son was 16 when he decided he had been 'kidnapped' and taken to Phoenix by 'a friend' (we lived in California at the time) ..
..he was gone for 3 days, no contact at all, a relative called to say he had seen him in Phx and wondered what was goin on.
Wife was worried sick, called the police, hospital .. by the 3rd day she was a wreck.
He shows up back at the house, tells me to my face he was 'kidnapped' ..
..I explained that he no longer lived here. His mom .. my best friend, did not deserve to be put through that 3 days over some dumb-ass kid, son or not. I was dead serious. I did not care if he slept in a dumpster.
Now he's 32, married, a truck driver, ..and ya .. around 21 or so he became someone worth knowing again.
As a parent ..you can 'raise' a kid, teach 'em right from wrong, that you MEAN it when you say STOP when they run up to a curb with traffic just beyond .. but when that kid gets the idea they can do whatever they want without considering any consequences .. yer done.
Just my 2 copper.
-GE (and my daughter was very progressive ..she told my wife and I there was no way she would ever raise a hand to her kids ..not gonna happen .. then she had twins. .. then another. -evil grin- ..ya . . you gotta teach em to react to commands, and saying 'stop' a thousand times just dont cut it when they are runnin towards traffic .. and such)

Exactly.
My Son was a terror from about 16 til 19. at 17 he had a kid. Basically he is a great dad and has turned into a very responsible adult. Foreman for a plumbing company incharge of new construction.
My Daughter just turned 21. She was never really in any trouble , but was just brain dead at times. She is now doing well and also has turned out to be more responsible.
They'll get there.

Fortunate!
Not all SEEM to respond that well.
Not that anything is wrong with em.............
It's like they have a temporary blockage between their ears and their brain.
Leaving the parent with little option but to reach their brain in another way.
Not sure how or why some young ones don't need anything but words and others seem to require more?
Guess it depends on the environment to a degree, the adults that are around, and other young ones.
Each IMHO MUST be considered individually. Where one takes only a word other are going to take more.
If nothing more is required then nothing more need, or should, be applied. IMHO.
