Schedule Close Escort while you're planning your weekend
Sunday, August 6th, 3:00 pm EST in the Special Events Arena (SEA)
RAF on the Offensive
The RAF strikes back while the Blitz rages over England.
Frame 1:
On 10 June, 1940, Italy declares war against Britain and France, then three months later she invades Egypt as the Battle of Britain ends. British forces answer in early November when 8th Army starts a counter offensive and British Swordfish attack the Italian port of Taranto. This wasn’t the first successful use of aerial torpedoes but it was the first time they were used successfully in such shallow waters and the raid became the blueprint for Pearl Harbor.
RAF
Spit 1
Hurri 1
TBM (Swordfish)
Italy
C.202
This was an undertaking of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm (FAA) from the carrier ILLUSTRIOUS striking the Port at 11:00 pm local time. In the history, the Swordfish went in unopposed without escort so this event has been modified for game play.

Out of curiosity, how did you come up with the TBM as a sub for the Swordfish, which was, after all, a slow biplane with only a peashooter on the back IIRC.
Would have thought a B5N2 to be more appropriate. . .

My reference specified a forward as well as rear firing gun and even if that weren't so I'd probably stay with the TBM for game play.
Look, we have few of the correct planes for this time period (zero for this event) but I thought this would be fun, we have the correct terrain and it seemed worth doing as an alternative to most of the activity in the winter of 40-41, which was long night bomber runs to Norway or the French coast or LW Blitz raids into England. The Italians and the 8th Army were active in Egypt but none of that excites the imagination like the Taranto raid.
If you fly Allies, you have to contend with carrier ops at night and faster Italian planes. If you fly Axis, you have TBMs which can bite back if you're not carefull.

Hey, if you are britan for the first frame, can you go Axis in the second? And are there going to be any Messerschmitts in the later frames? (Next 2 weeks)

Next Sunday it's the Blitz.

So... Deutschland?
