Im thinking of starting a WW2 Pacific play by email boardgame. Creating a map, and rules. Then take daily turns over email. Would anyone be interested in it?

Although it would be nice to have a standard hex map of the areas, we could probably all get 1 map of the pacific and use compasses for navigation as far and range per turn etc. It will be fun to work out. I dont know if any of you remember the old C64 game War in the South Pacific, but that was probably my all time favorite war game.
It had a lot of logistical stuff that you had to do, to plan for an attack. What Im thinking is that I could act as the computer and take care of the random stuff. The captains could send me their search areas and I would reply back that they found something. Also the enemy captain may, or may not realize he has been seen.
We could have multiple players involved. Each commanding a fleet...some CV TFs, some surface, some subs and Transports.
We could also have USAAF units involved. Each units would have a replentishment/reinforcement level per turn. The commanders would have to work together, but at the same time have to decide if they were ready to commit to an attack, or needed to guard their forces a bit more.
It could lead to some interesting situations between the forces.
I guess the first thing we need to do is find a good map of the Pacific areas. Id prefer the areas of Truk north to NE Australia south, to New Caledonia east, and New Guinea west. To me that was the most dramatic and evenly fought time period.
We can use PMs until we form a group willing to work on it and then we can get busy with it.

I have thousands of hours in that game. One of the best computer games of all time.

I'm IN....sounds like fun. Maybe find a map people can download online or purchase online so everyone has the same one. I've played games over e-mail before and we used a large map that I glued to a corkboard and then used multi colored push pins for different units. Piece of tape on the pins to keep track of unit specific info. It was a "Red Storm Rising" type game I played before. WWIII in Europe and North Atlantic but it was fun.

Steel Panthers: World at War is free and can also be played via E-Mail.
Very addicting it is...

Sounds awesome, count me in!

How do you play, and would this map work?

Ya raptor that would work nicely!
We'll have to add in a few key AFs and ports. But that should be fine. If you are interested in doing this, PM me, and we can start getting a few guys togther to work on the rules.

I have a book that will provide all the info we need to set it up. Ship availabity dates, plane ranges everything. I think once we get it so we have a design of game turns, we should try a carrier battle first to see how it plays out. Then if it plays well we can do a campaign.
-
I'd like to participate FiLth, and have the time and interest to help set it up.
Let me know what you might need, so I'll know how to help. :aok
Of course, I'll be doing my best to represent the Pacific Royal Navy Forces. :D Even If I am a died in the wool TEXAN :rofl

Ok Ive Pm'd those who were interested. Raptor provided us with a map, and Ive finished the basic rules. We can discuss further from there.

Is it to late to be in?
A "No" is acceptable considering yall already got this planned out.
-
Oh why not.
I want in.
-
Yeah, I'm in too, even if I'll just embarass myself rather quickly. I'll send a PM.

Ever consider playing Avalon Hill's Flat Top using the VASSAL engine?http://www.vassalengine.org/community/index.php?option=com_vassal_modules&task=display&module_id=81
Or possibly using Aide De Camp or Cyberboard or VASSAL to play any of the existing Pacific Boardgames out there? Or even if you do create your own game maybe one of these pieces of software will greatly help you in running your game. Just throwing a few ideas out to help with what I think may be a daunting task.

That looks cool Bug. Maybe a little more involved than I want to get at first but I'll definately keep it in mind thanks!
I think for the time being we have enough guys to start with thanks all!
