Nice selective reading there, bud. :aok
SB Pro PE is not a computer game, it’s a simulation.
-
in a years time, it would be $55 cheaper than playing AH

Oh I read that part too.
125 is still about 75 too much
and speak for yourself with the selective reading
"Sure, we keep saying it’s not a game, but I’m willing to bet that all the members of SimHQ didn’t buy SB Pro PE in a plan to join the Army and become a tanker. We bought it to play as a computer simulation, just like any other game or sim we buy and play "
And call it what you want. its STILL a game

LOL now there is a point thats hard to agrue against.
Question is. in a years time will I still want to be playing it like I do AH?
-
125$ Are ye nuts? ... dongle, bongles go away... I'll just wait :aok
-
It's an order of magnitude above AH in the simulation department. Think Falcon 4 with tanks. Niche market, hard core realism -- nothing that comes even close for the realism crowd. A fair price given the market, just like paying $100 for a niche aviation book is acceptable if it meets your interests. If you don't pay that it won't get written because not many people are all that interested in 500 pages of minute detail on the Spitfire or 109. The same with this game, or just about any "hard core" sim.

It comes with a nice spiral binder, a 96-page print manual that has just enough information to cover everything you need to know to get started
A flashback has been recorded.
I melted down an old pin type printer, printing out the entire AW manual.
Still have it.
Saw, you have a burner? Muhahahhahhhaaaaaaaaaaa!

(FYI 2, ~15 different armies use this as a training tool for tankers)

Simnet, used by the US Army to train crew in Armor and Helicopter tactics is a SIM. Steel beasts is a game.
A F16/ 15 and whatever else they design a simulator to train crew is a sim, it's not a game just like falcon 1,2,3,4 is not a sim, they are GAMES. Same for MS flight sim, Crimson Skies, AW and AH.
To say that a game can be used to rain folks doesn't make that a sim either. I used an old Apple 2C with a "panzer" game to help illustrate actions after contact ans give my LT's experiance in calling in sit reps and artillery. It didn't make that game a sim either.

It`s two.........two.........two mints in one.

Anyway you slice it
Even when the military has manuvers they call them "War Games"
A simulation yes. A high end one yes But its got winners its got loosers and nobody really dies Just like AH
No matter what way you try to slice it. No matter what you try to call it
Its a flipping game

You going to get it Russian? It sounds pretty interesting.

I have it. :aok and I have no problem of spending that much on a hobby. (and if I had to do it again, I would)

So is it as good as the review says it is?

Actually that review, I feel, is far from adequate. SimHQ is planning to release another review which will be much more detailed in few days.

It was a little light in info but they said it was worth the money if your an Armor buff. heheh

And here I thought this thread was going to be about firm breasts. :(

This quote made sense:
Here’s what I recommend. Take a look at all the games you plan on getting in next years timeframe. Cross three of those games off your list (because you were just going to be disappointed in them anyway ) and order yourself a copy of SB Pro PE. You will get your monies worth. I already have, and I haven’t even begun to reach the potential of this sim.
Not sure I'm buying it (the rationale not the "game"), but it was a good point.

Here's another view of SBProPE from different person from SimHQ.

2>SSnake and his tech guru want to completely own you.
3>Limited online play due to it being a client based server.
4>slow to update and/or fix bugs.
5>Main community is a bunch of old SBersa that enjoy using non-realistic tatics, such as a lone sniper tank. to win.
6>Also easy to cheat on equal to Global Operations on that.
(example make a pure red skin for all vechicles. Urs are also red to you but cammoed to others. Thiers are all red. Easy kill.
7>Map bugs allow unrealistic flanks to be used. No alerts to enemy if u leave map.
8>only a total of 4 per side allowed.
9> If (blackballed)by the choosen few) ur out 125$ for a cool GAME
10> damage to buldings unrealistic,Troops are very undependable. and FYI US has pulled it's support from this project as unreliable tech support has made issues.
!) good reasons to not play SB Pro PE
:O
so.... you were a jerk on their servers now you are bitter because no one likes you.
:D

Its a great 3D strat trainer. Although I didnt like not being able to interact with the M1 as a gunner, driver...hell....even a loader. The lack of being able to immerse myself within the 3D environment of the tank itself left
me feeling used....abused.....
Damned fine as a tank shooter, I enjoyed watching the ound ballisticate itself downrange. That much of the sim was enjoyable. THen again, Im shallow.

$125 per copy for a game? If I want to get killed playing a sim game I'll just up a P40b and fly a few minutes

Eagle Eye sounds like mrblack.
Game reviews remind me of the old M1 Tank Platoon games... which I always loved :) . Is it the same sort of thing?

Is that the fulda gap video?
Are they ever going to add 2a5s 2a6s or strv122s.. well any of the kickass modern tanks?
Are 3rd party mods allowed ?
-
Nevermind, vid answered my question. a5s in winter camo even :)
**** that looks awesome, definitely plan on buying it.
-
BTW, how realistic is it? I saw in the video a leo 1a4 getting it's turret blown off. Thats pretty remarkable. I mean no WP tank gun could do that, that turret weighs ALOT. And IIRC the 1a4 had blow off panels over the ammo compartment, meaning that an internal ammo explosion could never produce enough pressure to even dislodge the turret, let alone throw it in the air.
-
I've seen a video of a M1 Abrams getting its turret blown off, so its somehow possible. But this was by an IED made of 2x155mm shells.

They are going to have the STRV122 and the CV9040 and some of it's variants in the next update.
The Leopard2A5 is already in the sim, it is called the Leopard 2A5DK.
With third party mods, only for skins and sound.

Well, the military uses it, so it has to be fairly realistic. With the blow off panels, ask on tank-net.org, they would know more than I do as regards that. With the WP tank ammunition, the newer stuff can surely penetrate an Abrams, so a penetration on a Leopard 1 should be expected.
-
IIRC I saw M1 with turret blown from ammo cooking off (not IED). I think that door malfunctioned….but I'm not an experert either.

If there is an ammunition cook off, the overpressure from the explosion should be released through panels on the tank. That is to prevent the turret from being "popped." The tank that you saw, were the side skirts on the tank still intact, and was the track still on the tank?
-
Joe, I'll have to dig to find that picture again.

Here's upcoming update
Noticeable new features will be
* Strv122 (Swedish Leo 2A5), still somewhat prototypical but a nice addition to
* CV-9040, the world's most heavily armed infantry fighting vehicle, sporting a massive 40mm autocannon.
It comes with three ammunition types (CV-9040C) - APFSDS, capable of penetrating any MBT even at long range from all aspects but the front, HE/frag for all soft targets, and the "3P" HE ammunition with programmable fuze modes (not available in the CV-9040A/B).
* Mounted squads can now open hatches, look and fire out of them. This will increase the overall protection of IFVs and their spotting capabilities.
* Infantry can now occupy buildings, and fight out of them. We expect this to make urban combat much more lethal against AFVs.
* RB57 and TOW-2B top attack missiles.
* Infantry can now be equipped with remotely controlled unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). It can drive up to 300m from the squad that controls it, has an elevatable sensor mast with daylight and thermal camera, and is quite small.
* Leo 2A5 driver's place now equipped with rearward driving camera.
And a video of CV90
