This thread was only to point out how far they came in 17 years. The first B-17's rolled out in July of 1935 and the last was delivered in May of 1945 over 8680 were built. Seven years after the last B-17 rolled out the First B-52 took flight in April 1952 and the last one delivered was in Oct 1962. a total of 744 B-52's were built.

Not as much of a size difference as I'd have thought.
I've seen pictures of B-29s next to B-36s and the B-29s are dwarfed.

Two B52s are parked under a B36 last time I was at wright patterson afb museum.

wouldnt call the b52 new...its also very ugly.. nothing like the curves of the b17

B-17G......74' 4"/103' 9"
B-52H.....157' 7"/185'
B-36.......162'/230'
