Title: Day of Defeat - Half Life Mod
Post by: Vosper on May 18, 2001, 08:58:00 AM
Anyone playing this?  It's a WW2 mod, US vs German, with 4 different types of troops per side (light infantry, smg, sniper, support).

Some of the maps are a bit lopsided but fun, and most of the servers I've used have a limit on the # of snipers available.

It's a fun waste of time, and sates my appetite for infantry combat right now.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I have half-life - does this need to be up to date for DoD to work?

It was out before the HL 1.1.0.6 (whatever the latest patch is).  I'm running it off the retail CS, patched to latest, so I'd guess it would work for you.

Cheers

I'll be back into DoD once I get home to my cable conx.  It's a killer mod, specially the Omaha map.  It may seem lopsided but I've been there and won many times while on the Allied side...real hoot.  If you like this mod, check out Firearms, it's really good.  There's another one thats similar...can't think of the name, look at www.planethalflife.com (http://www.planethalflife.com)

I've just downloaded 84 Mb Dodbeta1.2 file on my poor 56k modem (4 hours or something stupid).

Now I have to download the 1.1.0.6 HL patch, which is a disgustingly big 54 Mb!!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Aaah well, it better be worth it...  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I've got Firearms also - basically the only reason I purchased HL:CS was to play these two mods.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

On the Omaha map, I've had great success being the US sniper, staying onboard the LCI and clearing the towers/cliffs for the assaulters.  On the German side, I prefer the Hvy Spt or Lt Inf role.

I've had absolutely no luck on one map - not sure of the name, but it's the big city - nothing I do seems to work  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I got DoD working and it is superb! Especially Omaha. I like the realistic aspect of it - and being a sniper in the ruins of Caens is excellent.

It is pretty tricky though - but I'm glad to see their isn't much circle strafing, and the cover gets used alot. Using the BAR to suppress the advancing enemy is great fun.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The tracer fire fights are excellent. Thanks for pointing it out Vosper!

Keep an eye out on the site, 1.3 is due out anytime soon (hmmmm, sounds familiar, waiting on the next version)  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yes, I'm glad to see circle-strafing is minimal, and real tactics can be used to some effect.

If you're on Gamespy, my nick there is Vosper also.
