Ok next question.
It is now August. Do you get the promotion and its pay in Jan?

OR do you get the promotoin now and all in its job discription added responcabilities, work etc.
and get to do it for the company on the cheap for the next 5 months till they finally start paying you for it?

Sorry but I trust big companies as employers about as much as I'd trust Jack the ripper in a brothel

Been that way ever since a place I worked for gave everyone (cept the upper echelon) the same "cost of living" increase.

Now sounds ok and all that untill you consider.
Cost of living went up that year 4%.
They gave everyone a 4% raise......effective in..........June

so really it wasnt a 4% increase it was a 2% increase for the year.

Same place gave me a promotion and tried doing with me the same thing they do with everyone else
Give you the promotion and all its added work and responcabilities now. But dont give you the title OR the money till January

Sorry but I dont play that game. You want me to take on the added stuff now, you give the the title, cash and perks that go with it now too or you can find yourself another stooge

They must have really thought something of me because in my case they made an exception.

course the fact that after theformer department regime was canned I saw to it placed myself in the position of being the only one that knew what was going on in my area with any kind of accuracy helped too.

Killer was I managed to keep it that way till I quit too LOL

Reguardless

Congradulations on you bump up in the world

Well, my "journey" to this certification began 3 years ago, when I went back to school and got my Masters Certificate in Project Management.  Finished that last year.

Then I decided to get my professional certification (recognized worldwide) so I signed up for a exam prep course in March this year. I finished the prep course (12 hours a day for 4 days! My friggin' brain was ready to fall out!) then took the test a couple of weeks later (friday)  So, my 3 year journey finally came to an end.

Now, my manager, (Also my hunting buddy) and I had a personal evaluations 2 weeks ago (They occur every 6 months.) He's known that I've been doing Project Management for my business unit for about 2 years now, but my job classification hasn't reflected that, primarily because I was needed as an engineering applications analyst as well, so I was essentially doing two jobs.   So Tom (Boss) told me me during my PE that they (upper management) are going to transfer me to a PM job classification in January. The reason Jan is the date is because we lost two software engineers in the last month...and we've hired two more, so I got to get them up to speed before I dump my analyst roles onto them.  The PMP just puts icing on the cake that's already baked.

Anyway, disregard my post, alot of pressure was relieved yesterday when I posted this, the stress is gone. I feel like a fully deflated balloon! Whew!

Oh, and thanks for the congrats! You guys ROCK! :)

Whats to disreguard?

We are always glad to see when one of our own manages to claw his way a little farther up the ladder

WTG

BTW, your son must be sweating out the August football practices about now.
Hows he doing with that?

DredHe's doing awesome! We had a celebration last night, two-fold, my PMP cert and his selection to first string offense! He's a full back in a basic wishbone offense.  Picture of him stiff arming some team mates in scrimmage on Thursday here (Thanks for asking about my favorite subject Dred!) :

(Incidently, no ones been able to tackle him before he gains 10+ yards per run, but its only 2 weeks into practice.  He's got a beatiful "Juke" move and does the spin move when necessary.  I swear to God, the other night he head fakes a kid right out of one of his shoes. The coaches were laughing and giving him high 5's!)

Sandy, thank you, I take that compliment in deep respect from you. :)

John, no not yet. Dilbert has hair. :p

Angus, I'm currently an Engineering applications analyst, however what I do is totally different. I have 28 CATIA testers that report to me and 6 India testers and 1 Project Manager that report to me, on the quality software assurance (Testing) of CATIA CAD/CAM software that our customers (Boeing Engineers) use to design and build big aluminum kites.

WTG Rip :)

KNow the feeling :) .. almost feelin guilty 'relaxing' evenings instead of boresighting a few chapters in Pathophysiology or somethin.

Still de-toxing for a bit after the years of career change to LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), school was accelerated program and felt fried more than a few times, but I find myself researching options to continue on to RN licensing lately.

It never stops :) .. there always seems to be the next rung up :)

Bah Rip.

"O whooo lookatme.. Oh I can't do stuff so i will tell YOU how to do MY job".

"Oooh a bird to a dump on my beemer! Now the slaves at work are gonna get it, those mother... what will Jerry and his wife think if they see this? I'll have to get one of the developers to wash it".

"I'll have to motivate them though. I hope they don't play BS Bingo like last time. L'et see, here's my speech...blah blah..synergy effect blah blah positive value addition blah blah optimizing integration blah blah incremental balancing blah blah". Those guys are gonna love me.

Then when I mess up my job and the time schedule is compromised as a result, I'll use my God Powers. UM will listen to me. Not my fault the slaves can't do what I tellum to in the time I give 'em. Overtime for them. Golf with Hansen from UM for me.

What do they mean "impossible"? It's NEVER impossible when *I* don't have to do it. Let's fire them all. Or at least take their bonuses. Or just make them feel really bad about only putting in 50 hour weeks.

I mean it's not MY fault that I set a 6 month project for 3 months. I need to get ahead. Can't the stupid soon-to-be-outsourced-to-India idiots see that? They will when I start singing the benefits of outsourcing that's for sure.

Where's my cafe latté? Can't believe those morons haven't made coffee for me yet.

Heh Rip.

I think PM's are the primary reason I like music such as Dope's 'Die motherf****er Die'.

I WANT MY VACATION DAMMIT!

Can't you talk to your buddies and 'make it happen, don't make excuses' (sorry for borrowing an PM gold nugget there).

Congrats dude :D

LMAO StSanta! :rofl That was good, but definately not our Project Manager culture! (Thankfully!) I am the one who has to make everyone happy so that they finish their testing! ;) (Otherwise my 2nd and 3rd level directors chew my butt off every Tuesday!)

Ah, you're one of the Good Guy project managers then eh?

I bet if you were my project manager, you'd let me get my vacation (3 weeks + 3 weeks from last year I haven't gotten) right?

Good job Rip, seriously. Don't let the new found position compromise family time though.

Because what happens is that then you turn into one of the project leaders I just described :D . Which means you run a significant risk of there not only being bird poo on your car...:aok
