So there I am feeling pretty good. Confident in the air and all that.
Then, by virtue of the sport being so small, I meet some world champions. I watch their videos, talk about technique.
And I realize how amazingly much I truly suck. Compared to these bastards I look like some utter n00b going HO at engagements all the time. And to top it off lately I haven't had time to jump as much as I want, courtesy of my job. Agh!
Got 6 days vacation. There's a video. I film some - am the dude in yellow in some clips:
Right click, save as... (http://www.tarfreefly.dk/gallery/tarfreefly.wmv)
In order to not look totally sucky, those world champs feature 0 seconds in the video :D
-
Yep, you still suck! :lol
Awesome clip though. Bigger cahones then me, I hated the idea of jumping out of a plane, still do!
-
1000 jumps and still alive = dont suck at skydiving.
-
Aww crap I just re-watched the video - there are some world champs in there.
I met them at Gryttjom Sweden - at that time they where the silver medalist in female freestyle. I remember telling them over some beer:
Santa: "So you're the second best team in the world"
Champs: "Yes".
Santa: "So someone is better than you?"
Champs: "Umm..."
Santa: " So really, you guys SUCK!".
Then those bastards won at the world meet earlier this week. How embarrasing is that? :rofl

Not being a skydiver, I would say sucking is hitting the ground at terminal velocity. Anything else is a win :)

Out of those 1000 jumps, did any of them make you say "oh POOP" as you were going down or were they all clean (no problem) jumps.
Just curious. Congrats BTW, like everyone above me, if you are still here, you obviously don't suck :D

I only counted malfunctions.... 1
I was 12th man out on a 14 man stick and the 1st one to hit the ground at Bragg's St. Mere DZ. i had softball sized hole in the chute (T-10) and it ripped the entire section out to where you could drive a Jeep through it.
We were jumping at the standard 1250 ft. I was the smallest and youngest at the time. Once the chute opened and I cleared the canopy I noticed the hole. Figured I'd just ride it out and avoid the Peer pressure that normally happens later. All of a sudden there was an increase in speed of decent and I checked the canopy again and a section is waving back at the C-130.... Got the reserve deployed at about 550 ft level and it began to twist with the risors of the main...then trees.
It was the reserve/main, trees and the fact I didn't hit the big limbs that saved my life. I didn't bounce but came dam near close to it. I was bruised up SOB for a few Months.
After I healed I jumped many more times... to prove to me and others that I wasn't afraid. *our secret... I was scared chitlesss*
Now many years afterwards my back, knees and ankles are a waste. But when yer 18 you are young and dumb, bulletproof and 10 tall.
But all in all, jumping was the Ultimate High!
