--Warning--
Some of this material may be emotion provoking and is not for everyone...
What I did was search for "world trade center", and go to the initial posts from 9-11-2001....Our raw emotion, and confusion is amazing...Like I said, this isnt for everyone, and I certaintly didn't start this thread for any sort of debate...It is what it is...

I know...There is a ton of information on our message boards, but I didnt want to post every link directly after the attack because it would have been in the hundreds...
I just wanted to post these few, for those who want, to reflect on the preserved thought and emotion we put onto this board within minutes/hours of the attack taking place.....
Like I said, I dont want this thread to turn into any type of debate...This isnt the forum for that.....

Brought back alot of memories of watching the 2nd plane hitting the tower in my 8th grade Spanish class. A kid in my class making a joke as the 1st tower fell. Kids going home early from school. The principle coming down to our classroom and ripping the cable out the back of the tv. Sitting home all afternoon and night and watching all the news channels for information. Reading those made the same feeling of the hair on the back of my arms stand up and that cold chill come over me that day...something that needs to be remembered.
:(

What was his/her reasoning?

He didnt want a bunch of middle school kids going into chaos. Seeing people jump from building live on tv I understand his reasoning now that Im older.

I was a senior in high school during the attacks of September 11th, 2001...My school also tried to censor the televisions that morning of the attack, but I think for a different reason...I live 45-50 minutes from Manhattan...I think it would be fair to say that 1 out of 4, maybe 1 out of 5 kids in my high school (which was nearly 3,000 people) had a parent that worked in Manhattan, and a lot in the WTC and lower Manhattan...As history would have it, five kids from my high school lost a parent that day...I think the administration had a very legitimate reason to try and censor what they could until more information was known to stop a mass panic...
I played high school football, and as soon as I heard what was happening, I went straight to the locker room where most of the team, and coaches were watching on a private tv...I'll never forget just looking at tower 1 burning, and then all of a sudden seeing the boeing slam into it......
-
I brought my then newborn son Ian, and wife home from the hospital on Sept. 11, 2001. I also have a cousin that is still working in the Pentagon and was stationed in that wing which was under construction. She'd have been dead had this happened 6 months later. I'll never forget. I'd still love to cap OBL's arse.

I thought it was interesting reading back and seeing someone ask, "if the taliban was the group in control of Afghanistan"...It's just interesting to see how in the matter of a day, so many thing's have become household knowledge throughout the world...We truely live in a new age

It's amazing how unified the country was at that time and how fast it seemed to be ready to "put it behind them".

Amazing how we got worked up about stuff that didn't directly affect us. A few thousand people killed... Just a drop in the bucket compared to the slaughter going on every day around the world. But we went nuts for a while.

Funked you are really just nothing but a troll merchant now. What happened to you?

Out of the five families that lost parents, one was a very close friend, and the other was my best friends father you as*hole! A man who used to stay up late with us at sleep over's as a kid...a man who used to drive me to sport practices every day...a man who treated me no different then if I were his own son...Dont give me that bull about being directly affected....Oh yea, did I mention that his son, and my best friend Tom, graduated from West Point this past May? I really hope your path's cross one day funked....
Not affected huh....Does your father work in Manhattan? No? Mine does...For the past five years, and until retirement, my family always has to carry around in the back of their mind, that our loved one is working in the most targeted city in the United States for a terror attack, and even the most minute emergency, brings fear to us....
Not affected huh? My uncle is an airline pilot for United. He happened to be flying on 9-11-2001 during the attacks...My family now has to live with the lingering fear of what if in the back of our minds.......
AND NOT AFFECTED huh??????? On September 10th, 2001, I planned on making a living flying commercial jets....On September 12th, I decided to commission into the US Army after college graduation, and fly Army Helicopters, which I am a stones thow away from right now....
So dont give me your BS about not being affected
-
Cav,
He's just a troll now. If you notice he never has a discussion with anyone. He just throws out a statement with all the courage of a drive by shooter who then speeds away. Ignore him, he's a sad person.

Listen, I was the first to say I dont want this to turn into any type of debate, but im sorry...When someone like funked comes in here and say's garbage like that, I will not stand for it! But I will take your advice, and just ignore the fool...

OK then your family and friends were directly affected. What I'm talking about is the other 99.9% of us who weren't affected directly but still had mushroom clouds coming out of our ears.

Typical neoconanderthal kneejerk ad hominem. Why are we discussing me instead of the subject at hand?

I'm happy to have a discussion with you. However, a discussion entails more than just making personal comments about the other person. You actually have to deal with the subject matter of the discussion. You might try it for once.

Even if what you said is true, which it is not, about .01% being affected, I dont care! Just because some didn't feel a direct physical connection and loss during the attack doesnt mean they were not affected, as much as myself, or anyone for that matter....
It's called Benevolence! It's called caring...and most importantly its about respect, and Patriotism...
In other scenario's, I could have been the one living in Hawaii, thousands of miles from the physical attack, and I still would have been affected, because my country was attacked...therefor I was attacked!

The only current obstacle to discussion of the thread topic is your insistence on discussing my previous posts on unrelated topics. I won't reply to any further ad hominem statements of this nature.

Agreed. But why do those seem to only apply to people in Manhattan and DC and not to the (20 to 30 times more!) people who have died violently as a result of US actions since 9/11? That's what's irrational and that's why I say we went a little crazy. Myself included
Acting rationally instead of emotionally is what seperates us from children and animals. I'll give people a pass if the irrational behavior is due to something happening to friends or family, but not when it's due to something we see on TV. That's just creepy. Especially when the media and the government milk it for all the economic and political profit they can get with sappy movies and unjustified wars.
-
As a rational adult I can "react" any way I choose, including letting emotion take over for awhile. Emotions including joy, anger, pride and remorse(conscience isn't rational) are also what separate us from animals and children.Remember, sport, that the attack was a political statement to ALL Americans, not just those in New York and Washington. If Osama and his cadre think that killing innocents is "rational" like you seem to insist, then please explain. BTW, what makes you think that the label "Zionist" fits every American? On the list of important things in my life, what happens to ANY country in that part of the world ranks 10,001 on the list of 10,000.

That was sure one crazy day. I remember our principal comes over the loudspeakers:
"Now I just want to say that nothing has happened... Here ... But two planes have crashed into the Twin Towers..."
So, yeah, I'd imagine much like when Kennedy was shot, the rest of the classes was spent glued to the TV. We "got" to see the Towers fall, and the gasp in that classroom is going to stick with me for a long while. I didn't personally lose anyone, but there were certainly kids in that class who thought they probably had (wasn't close enough to find out after if they did... It's generally not the type of thing to ask).
You have to remember at first we thought the casualties were in the tens of thousands. Thank God it happened when it did (before the buildings filled up).
Then of course being the little **** stain in high school that I was, I decided to take off and drive around the area meeting up with my friends. Of course NO ONE was paying ANY attention to the road that day, there were car crashes and close calls all over the place, but I did eventually make it to the gas station my buddy worked at. A few of the cops in town were there and basically were pretty shaken "We have no idea how to handle something like that" was a pretty common remark.
The next few days were also crazy. People didn't know what was going to happen, one of my bosses was stuck in France for another week or so, and everyone was just a *wee* bit paranoid. It really reminded me of that Spielberg film, 1941.
But something "great," if that's the right word, soon happened. Outpourings of emotion and support came in from the entire world. "AMERICA, WE ARE WITH YOU" was the message. School kids raised money and supplies. My friends and I had a running goon convoy to the Stop & Shop. We must have spent a small fortune for a high school kid there, buying supplies and running them back to the drop off point at the High School. Flags were everywhere. There were vigils. People swore to "never forget" and we all set down to do the task at hand. GWB, as much as I dislike the guy, even had a good speach "Well I can hear YOU..."
Yeah, it was almost an interesting, proud time to be alive in a weird, tragic way.
Of course, nearly five years later no one could give a rats bellybutton anymore, if you talk about staying the course of taking the fight away from our shores you're a fascist, and high school kids everywhere are more concerned with what happens on Laguna Beach then in Lebanon. Right back to normal as if absolutely nothing has happened. Oh woe is me, a whole 2 hour flight to Florida without my iPod

Funkd...you realise we are fighting a war right? Who started it, why we are fighting it, or how many have died doesnt really matter anymore. We are in it. What do you expect us to do, send a floral arrangement and a sympathy card?
The killing will stop when those people evolve enough to know that killing humans in the name of a god is uncivilized.

* I don't wan't to forget the commies :D
@Maverick : I don't know if you really understand what "argumentum ad hominem" mean.
But be sure of one thing your post full of Funked's citation is just and only a big "ad hominem" post :lol
Or perhaps were you trying to show us how you can perforate your right and left foot with one single bullet ?
-
My Uncle was working in the Pentagon the day of the attacks. Luckly for him he was on the other side of the building. He did lose 14 friends.
My cousin was working in a theater about 10 blocks from the towers when the attacks started. I have a copy of her being interviewed by Fox on some street corner covered in dust and ash that afternoon.
Your right Funkd, it didn't really affect us.

Aren't you the one complaining about personal attacks?
Then why is it whenever anyone disagrees with you in any manner, you drag out the same phrase: neoconanderthal kneejerk? It seems you feel it fits anyone who doesn't think "your way", which is according to you "the intelligent way".
I think that phrase qualifies for two things. It's your new favorite phrase, and it's the very thing you complain about, an "ad hominem".
Congratulations, you are exactly what you complain about. Have a nice day, and go some where else and troll there, maybe they'll pay you more attention. They'll love you at the Democratic Underground and the Daily Kos.

The world was unified as long as all that was expected was verbal action. Once it went to more it fell apart.

If only the US had stayed with the original goal. Killing Al Qaeda instead of killing every muslim on the planet.

Well... Afghanistan didnt cause any substantial uproar. AFAIK everyone were onboard with that one for obvious reasons.

I remember that day pretty clearly. I think it was a post by Eagler showed what was happening live, about 30 minutes before we had related news here on the radios. Everything stopped here, even if we were on the other side of the planet.
But of couse, Funkey is right... the aims to secure the future has changed into some kind of worldwide vendetta. It's not pretty either.

I was playing AH at the time and someone started typing about 2 planes crashing.. took me and many awhile befre realizing it was not craptalk and I turned on CNN. Cant rememeber if i caught the second plane strike, but i got on before they collapsed... My father was sitting in the livingroom with tears in his eyes and mom was just starring.
-
At the time my oldest brother was in the Army, E-8, and was on duty at the Ft. Bragg Command Center. The story that he tells of that morning is riveting.
I was in bed when my wife got a call to put the tv on, a plane had crashed into the WTC. About 10 mins. into that we saw the 2nd plane hit live. We were in silent shock. Then we got news about the Pentagon, and then flight 93. It really felt like we were under attack...it made me feel like what my grandparents must have felt on December 7, 1941.
