Title: Canadians vs Americans
Post by: rosco- on May 21, 2001, 03:06:00 PM
This was sent to me and I make no claims of its authenticity  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

This is the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with
Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October
1995.  Radio conversation released by the chief of naval
operations, 10-10-95.

CANADIANS:  Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to
avoid a collision.

AMERICANS:  Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the
north to avoid a collision.

CANADIANS:  Negative.  You will have to divert your course 15
degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS:  This is the captain of a US Navy ship.  I say again,
divert YOUR course.

CANADIANS:  No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

AMERICANS:  This is the Aircraft Carrier US LINCOLN, the second
largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet.  We are
accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous
support vessels.  I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees
north.  I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or
counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this
ship.

CANADIANS:  This is a lighthouse.  Your call.

I've seen that one a few times... is it for real? The BS detector is twitching slightly... yet it's a nice story and effectively demonstrates that Canada is superior to the United States of America and that while Fatty thinks he's beatin' on Skernsk while blindfolded he is probably throwing punches at a lighthouse.

It should twitch more than just slightly, Nash...

First, international rules of the road dictate which ship has right of way. There's a reason why ships have a red light on the port side and a green one to starboard. The lights can be seen from miles away.

Lighthouses don't have port and starboard lights.

That... and the ship has radar. Land large enough to have a lighthouse is easily distinquished.

Of course... if the Lincoln couldn't figure it out, somehow there were three destroyers, three cruisers and the numerous support vessels that didn't know where they were at.

Oh... and in 1995, you can bet they were using GPS.

It's complete and total BS.

"Canada is not a real country anyway!!!!"

 Udie

Well then I suppose that the following editorial is not from a real newspaper then..
Be nice or we will turn off the gas :P

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.
America:
The Good Neighbor. Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently
to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a
Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all
the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in
billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is
today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and
swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were
flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.
The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries
are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet,
the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly
American planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most
of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the
Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them even an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble?? I don't think there was outside help even
during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of
this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!"

That guy must have had the same water as Americans drink.

"The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) was in the Pacific in 1995 until it entered drydock in Washington where is stayed until late 1996."

It's still a funny urban legend though.

Nah, it's not Canadians vs. Americans.

Its the Canadians and Americans vs. the Quebecois  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I work with great people from Alberta and Saskatchewan all the time in the oil and gas industry.

The only thing that p*sses me off is that even their women can drink more beer than me.

Fox29,

Thanks for posting that article, it's nice to see that what we've done over the last 60 yrs or so hasn't gone un-noticed.  I ofcourse was kidding about the "real" country thing  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  It's a line from South Park the movie when they are letting loose with the anti-Canadian propaganda to start a war with them hehe.  BTW Canada won the wor  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
