not directly of course. She has this idea that our apartment is airtight or something and every fricken window needs to be open all day. The draft caused him to get sick over a week ago, and after a vet bill that would buy 5 new parakeets he seemed to go back to his old self. But no matter what I said to her she would not stop opening the windows "to air the place out" The other night I guess I either forgot to close the kitchen window behind her where the birds were or she opened it again. But I got up later for a glass of water in my fruit of the looms and was met by an icy river of cold air flowing through the hallway. Naturally enough the poor parakeet is now deadly ill with a respiratory infection. The wife is bawling her head off, but it pisses me off that had she fricken listened and kept the GD window closed in the room where the birds are this would not be happening.
Going to take him to the vet again today and hope for a miracle but I am not optimistic at this point.:( :cry :cry

sounds to me like you need to include the caged bird in your next sortie. share some of your virtual flight time with the feathered lil' fellow. remember, he has wings too.

Simple enough. Just start whistling bird calls everytime she opens a window. Poor Tweety.

Sad. :(
When my sister was in grade school she did the same thing. One winter day she thought it was too hot in the house and turned the thermostat down to like 55F. Parakeet passed away within a week.

I hate birds... My girlfriend has one of those big white ones that makes all kinda noise all the time. It craps all around the 4'cage and is just a huge pain in the butt. Worse thing is... she tells me the things live forever allmost.

Only one solution.
Get rid of the wife.
Problem solved ;)
Or.
Keep the bird in the same room as you are.

While I was at work one November day, the north wind blew my back door open. My dog came in and had a parrot for lunch....almost lost to pets that day.
-
Your wife is more important than that bird, let her off the hook.

i had a budgie that worshipped me, would quite happily sit on my shoulder while playing AH etc. now he is no longer here, really get attached to the little bastages :(

Oh man! I'm sorry Pooh! Parakeets are such great companions. I hope he pulls through.
We have a 5 year old parakeet who can't live without us, and we without he. He's a PITA sometimes, likes to land on the keyboard when you're typing...sometimes poops while typing! LOL!

Mine once landed on the keyboard looked up at the screen and started pushing a key with his beak then looked back up on the screen. He thought he could work a computer.
He is at the vets now. He perked up at the end of the day,so I think maybe there is hope. The vet will take care of him til he is better. Though the vet said he is still in danger. The fact he was a little on the chubby side helps. If he makes it I swear I am removing the window handles
Lukster I am not blaming her in person, just here.

Cockatiel. They are a PITA. Friend of mine in high school had one flying free in his house (his father raised exotic birds and other animals). I took the job of feeding them while they were gone on vacation once, dang thing dive bombed me every time I came in the house.

Sorry to hear Pooh, hopefully he gets better. I'd like to get a Cockatoo, I hear birds require lots of attention thoiugh, something i'm not always able to give.

Yup, likely a Cockatiel. They live about 70 years and bite like a sumbiatch.
-
cant you get some lag bolts and screw the window shut?
-
Well he didnt make it. Vet called this morning said he died sometime during the night. Not ashamed to admit I bawled like a little baby. Well at least he is not in pain anymore and is having fun in those endless fields our lost pets play in.
-
2 choices - either bolt the windows shut or just remove them entirely and get a pet that doesn't mind a fresh breeze.
-
Sorry to hear that Pooh. :(
