Professional agitator Al Sharpton is running for president in 2004 - and Al Gore's failure to steal the 2000 election "inspired" him.
"I feel that the Democratic Party must be challenged in 2004 because it didn't fight aggressively to protect our voting rights in Florida," Sharpton claimed to Time magazine.
"I think we need to look at running a black in the primary. I have said I would be available to do it," said Sharpton, forever infamous for promoting the Tawana Brawley hoax.
The idea seems to be that Jesse Jackson is no longer the Harold Stassen of the Democrat party, so someone has to fill in - but Sharpton denies trying to capitalize on the disgraced Jackson's waning popularity.
"I'm not one to think that Rev. Jackson's finished," he said. "I'm not trying to take advantage of his travail. My rise is not at Jesse's expense. If I'm rising it's because I've done the work on issues like police brutality that affect huge numbers of our people."
Sharpton failed in a bid for the U.S. Senate in 1994 and three years later failed in a bid for mayor of New York City, United Press International reported today.
Still to be determined: the number of Democrats who jump ship to avoid being associated with Sharpton.
And we thought nothing could be funnier than Janet Reno wanting to be governor of Florida.

Are the Democrats this desperate or what?
Heck Reno should run as his Veep. She has as much a chance at that as becoming FL's next gov.
LOL

Oh my, that's funny. If that's the best they can muster for 2004, this is going to be a VERY entertaining election!

"Dubya" has more honor in his little pinky than Slick willy or Jimmy carter has between them both..

Rich people are always trying to buy the government. It is as natural as breezing. Otherwise why have the money.
But. Contrary to what many of you think, rich man in government is less likely to be bought or get corrupt then any other guy, if history is any indication.
I can be sure that Ross Perot or Steve Forbs would not have been affected by any offers relating to positions after the leaving the office, book deals, speaking fees, etc. They might have been more likely to listen to the advice of their fellow rich people, but not bought.

Ironically, Miko, if you add up all the personal wealth of both house and senate, the Dem's have more personal wealth today than the Repubs.

That is incorrect.
He was certainly ineffectual as a president - but Jimmy Carter is a man of honor and integrity, unlike the three criminals who followed him in office. <RaYgUn,Bush,Clinton>
Time will bear witness to "Dubyas" honor and integrity, I bet he's found lacking in the end.

Sharpton is a joke.
This is a publicity stunt.
Take it from a liberal, we're not desparate (especially with the way the administration is repeatly shooting itself in the foot) and we don't particularly like Al Sharpton. Actually, I rather dislike him, much like I dislike Strom Thurmond.

No wonder you guys talk about sheep so much! Buncha party line followers! Go independent and *gasp* vote for the candidates who you think will do the best job! (not just talking about the Presidential races, but all the way down to your local offices.) The two major party system serves nothing but deadlock.
Seriously, how many of you actually believe in everything your party of choice believes in?
As for the picture of the President, what is the context? It's obvious he's at a graduation ceremony. Hmm, what college uses that hand gesture??? I wonder... oh yeah! University of Texas Longhorns! Hmm, what state was Dubya from and governor of??? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hehe, Nifty!
I've always said, vote the issues, not the party. Just happens I don't like to give up all my hard earned money to taxes, therefore, I don't vote for Dems, I guess some guys like to give away their hard earned money, not me, I like to keep it invest it, save for my childrens education. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

*nods* don't blame you. Along the same lines, I voted Bush this time because he actually backs privatization of Social Security. Being 26, and starting to be conscious about my eventual retirement, that was one of the most important issues to me.
On the other hand, it absolutely makes me sick that he wants to put oil wells off my coast line. Oh well, doesn't matter, it'll remind me of my childhood beach trips and stepping in globules of crude oil! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
*sighs* give me someone who is environmentally conscious and will let me save for my retirement as I see fit!

watch the news er Fox of course (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif), the photo was from yesterday when the Pres was at Yale. He had some funny quips about his grades, partying and the Veeps ed at Yale.
Nope don't believe all the Republican spin but it's closer to my beliefs than the others. What Rip said.
As for oily beaches, I'd guess you stepped in oil 20 years ago, u being 26 now. Don't you think technology has progressed since then? Was the spill from a rig or a ship transporting the oil from overseas as most spills are. We have the ability to supply our own energy. We need to NOW or do you want FL to become a CA with it's rolling blackouts? How about $5 a gallon for gas or should we all be issued gov bicycles in the name of "save the environment"? If the choice is some endangered sucker fish or electricity, please keep my lights on.

I watch FOX. On sunday nights! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Oh, and on Sunday days during the Fall. mmm, can't wait for NFL re-alignment! My Saints and Bucs will play home and home every year, and I'm looking forward to not knowing who to cheer for! I'm just shocked they're both pretty decent football teams now! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Yup, was about 20 years ago. Was from leaky oil wells more than likely. The tar/oil globules were there every time we went to the beach for awhile.
Sure I don't want to pay outrageous prices for gasoline and energy. However, fossil fuels WILL be gone one day, and more than likely in our lifetime given that consumption rates continually rise as more and more countries begin to rely on it. Research needs to be done into cleaner, more efficient, and longer term energy solutions. But hey, if you (not really you, but you know what I mean) can 100% promise me that if you put an oil rig 7 miles off my shore that I won't be stepping in oil globs, then go right ahead and drill! However, if you might spill and kill the majority of the marine life in my area, I don't want it. Tourism and Seafood are extremely vital to my community, and an oil spill would kill off both for awhile!

- this is why i think critical reasoning needs to be stepped up in schools. what does that mean "protect our voting rights"? no ones rights were infringed yet millions of americans will say to themselves ..."yeah my voting rights WERE infringed huh?" just because they heard someone say it and it sounded interesting.
i mean, do you have right to have someone come to your house and help you walk past the scary policemen to place your vote? i'll walk right thru em know why? nothing to hide thats why....
do you have a right to have someone grade your voting card? make sure you really meant it? should it be like a windows program where every time you choose a candidate a little warning comes up: do you really want to vote pat buchannon, yes or no?! - even if there were such protections maybe you computer techs can tell me how many times do people still pick the wrong answer and foul everything up!
havent already we reduced every process in this country to the point that the stupidest among us can get by...? that the laziest and most worthless person can still eat and get general assistance money? ...that the most violent criminals only have to spend short stretches in prison because they 'didnt mean to hurt anyone", or they were "forced by there environment"....which of course was all created by white males to suppress everyone - come on?!
'voting rights'.....hmpf....i suggest a nationwide education campaign on the definition of a 'right' so people can use the word correctly. it does not mean: a solution to your stupidity.

As a Floridian who voted, I'd like to state for the record that the problem with voting methods was limited to SOUTH FLORIDA only. Northwest Florida had a completely different balloting method. A broken arrow pointed to the candidate or issue. You used a marker to fill in the arrow of your choice. It was kinda fun, like coloring is to a child. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) At no point, and I repeat NO point, did I have to deal with a "chad!!!!" (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
The point of this is, please don't lump all of Florida in with the lame pollsters in those southern counties. In fact, most other Floridians want to give South Florida to Cuba. Hell, Spanish is pretty much the official language of Miami. (ok, so the counties in question were actually a bit north of Miami, but still...)

Ah, well you know what's coming. So you're right Ammo, this guy has definately integrity.
I'd personally rather have a competent president who would know and then invite an intern to the oval office, but that's just me......

Hehe... the "committer of treason" bit always cracks me up. As does the "pompous" bit. Sorry, but anyone who runs for President these days qualifies as pompous in my book. C'mon, watch the rallies, the ads, the entire race! Running for President these days is the ultimate expression of ego in this nation. Sometimes it makes me sick...
Even the "lesser of three evils" (Gore; Nader doesn't appeal to me that much) wasn't exactly a top choice. But he was better than the alternative.
