I never seriously considered it was faked. If the tapes aren't found however I'll be wondering.

Oh come on, are there really people that stupid out there? Think of the tens of thousands of people who would need to keep the secret.
The tapes were recorded in one place, and over 40 years of storage, got lost. I can't even find my car keys some mornings, and that's after a few hours.

There are a lot of people that "stupid" for sure. I ain't one of them. You not keeping track of your car keys can hardly be compared with Nasa losing the most important document they have or likely will ever have. I expect them to leave no stone unturned, dammit.

They lost the plans to the Saturn 5, they have the ability to lose anything... You do realize that NASA is a branch of government, don't you?

Well, yeah, but they are the ones to put a man on the moon. I would have thought they'd be refreshing these magnetic historical documents periodically to prevent their loss. They certainly should have been, at least the video of the touchdown and the first step.

If you need to see video of the moon shots, just watch The History Channel. Trust me, they have plenty.

They do have copies, refreshed recordings if you will... or even if you won't... what they lost was the first (master) recording tape.
Kind of like losing the first Edison phonograph recording tube even though we have his voice saved on other media.

Oh, that wasn't in any of the articles I've read. The originals would have been lost to degradation over time anyhow.
So why haven't these superior quality videos been made available for viewing to the public?

Man this is as bad as George Lucas recording over his original 1977 original Star Wars film. The original starwars film was forever lost and it is completely replaced by 1997 20th aniversary edition.

I mean, even years before the landings the Russians cropped samples from the moon with an unmanned craft. The technology was there allright.

Magnetic tapes that were used back then degrade so fast (within 10 years), they'd look like watermelon today if played. They still have other sources (copies, copies of copies) to utilize. So even if they FIND the originals, you'd hardly be able to tell what was contained on it anyways.
