Title: converting Ah films to AVIs
Post by: fireplug1111 on August 16, 2006, 03:10:05 PM
I watch my recorded flights in my AH file  it gives me the option to convert them to an AVI so I can watch them on my WMM. However when I convert it it wont let it play as it says FILE IS CURRUPT OR NOT SUPPORTED?  Why is it so difficult to convert these to AVIs? Please someone tell me how to make the AH FILES work on my WMM.
Thanks.
Alan

That "convert to AVI" functions is... how can i put it nicely.... err..... not exactly user friendly :D. In other words forget about it (unless you like headaches ;))

Try http://www.fraps.com instead.

I second that.  I think I have heard exactly 1 person say they ever got the AH film to AVI converter to work properly on their computer.  Everyone else either says it doesnt work or doesnt work well enough to use reliably.

Fraps is a good alternative.  Not perfect, but good.

SOA, do you have alternatives to Fraps?

Preferrably low cost or free :).

No, I wish I did.  "Perfect" would be a program that is capable of playing the raw .ahf files of the AH films, and will convert them to a format that can be played on a standard viewer like WMP.  Thats what the Film Viewer is SUPPOSED to do, but it doesnt work.  I have no idea why, such things are way beyond me.  Fraps isnt perfect because its not a CONVERTER, its a RECORDER.  That and you have to pay for it to get more than a few seconds at a time.  What it does, it does very well, but to me its just clunky and a waste of resources to have to run 2 programs to do what 1 should be able to do.  If someone could come out with an extension to WMP that would let it play raw .ahf files, that would accomplish the same purpose and make everyone happy.  Somehow I dont see that happening either.

Sorry.  Rant mode off.
