After 4 weeks in Europe, it's time to move to the Pacific.
Rabaul: October-November 1943
Japanese Army Air Forces and Navy planes vs. USAAF, USN, USMC, RAAF and RNZAF birds.
Axis (bishops):
Zekes (A6M2, A6M5b), Ki-61, N1K2, D3A, B5N, Ki-67
Allies (knights):
P38G, P40s (B and E), F4F, F6F, F4U1, A20
Settings:
Historical radar (1943: tower 264000, sector counter max.)
Killshooter is on.
Friendly collisions are off.
Fuel burn is 1.0.
Visibility is 10.
Object down time is 60 minutes for all important field objects (including AAA)
Base capture: 25 troops (although there are no C47's or vehicles available)
Puffy ack is .1, other ack is .25.
Terrain: Japan (with the Kyushu bases changed to Allied, I know Slot would be closer historically, but I decided to give the Japan map a test run in the AvA too :)).
And a big thank you to Dan/CorkyJr for the idea and details on this one.

Please for the love of god ... don't add German AC for subs.
This set is good as is.

Oops. What I meant to say was Killshooter will be OFF. Sorry about that...
Bronk, those listed above are the planes that will be available, no substitutes coming into this one.

Figures I work all weekend and I'm on vacation out of town starting Monday :)
I hope it works

what time Saturday?

Not to be nitpicky... but why is the N1K2 in a 1943 setup?

I threw it in the mix just to even it up a bit. Historically it would have only been Navy Zekes, and Army Tonies at Rabaul. Figured they needed some help with the Hogs and F6Fs about :)

Understood. The Ki-61 can hang with a Hellcat no problem. However, the 1 Hog is a bit faster than the Ki-61 and can give it some problems.
Hopefully, it won't be the N1K2 vs F4U-1 the whole setup. :)

If it seems to be only N1K2's vs. Allied planes, the N1K2-J can easily be disabled for the Axis. I've personally always liked flying the Ki-61 Tony, but let's see how this setup does with the Niki enabled. If it's going to be only N1K's after a couple of days, I guess it's going to get dropped from the setup (or maybe limit it to some of the rear fields only).
I hope this isn't considered as an Axis conspiracy to rule the world (err, AvA)...

I'll put it up sometime during Saturday (probably during early afternoon EST), it'll be in the Axis vs Allies arena for the next week or so (depending on when the next setup is posted.. friday or saturday probably). So it'll be there for a week, all it needs is some pilots. :)

Oh darn. Well, this looks like a good (and fun) setup so I expect we will be running it again... And thanks again. :)

Argh. I can't get to the arena now, problem with the terrain, I keep having to reload it every time I try to log in... Sorry folks, looks like the AvA arena isn't functioning at the moment. :cry

Just a quick question.
What's killshooter?

If you shoot at friendlies, you get the damage to yourself. The Main Arena has killshooter on, AvA would have it off if I could get to the arena to do the setup... I guess I blew it and now have to wait for Skuzzy to come reset the arena on Monday. Sorry everyone.

Not Panzzer's fault, it was my suggestion to use the Japan map. I should have checked first with Skuzzy, since we haven't used this one before.
We (meaning Panzzer - I'll be out of town) will put up some other map with this plane set once Skuzzy is able to get in to reset the arena.

Skuzzy fixed it, so now it's up as stated above.
Go ahead, give it a try. Comments, suggestions, feedback welcome.

I checked it out. You have F6F's listed but I didn't see any. You have F4F's, and F4U's on the CV's. F4U was deemed un-suitable for carrier ops in 1943. So they should be land based.
Just a suggestion................... ... If you do have F6F's make them CV only and allow F4F's on a couple of CV's. If no F6F's put F4F's on the CV's for fighters but no F4U's The F4U1 should be available on land bases only.
P-40B? Ehh who needs it? P40E, and P-38G good.
Keep the A6m2, as a Ki-43 sub.
A6M5, and Ki-61 good.
N1K2............ a little iffy but if you think it's needed.;)
All around nice looking setup Panzzer.:aok
-
Oops. I knew I must have missed something, I'll go add the F6F right away. I'll do as you say and add it to CV's only and disable the F4U's from the carriers, at least for now.
The Niki is one thing I'd like to see comments on, if it dominates the setup and whether it should be limited to rear fields or disabled.
Thanks & .

Please scrap the month long RPS scenario.
A two week RPS with a planeset that changes daily seems far more playable.
Even a one week mini RPS could prove to be enjoyable.
-
Actually Panzzer you could ditch the F6F5 along with the N1k2 neither of them are 1943 planes. Run it with Wildcats on the CV's.
It's a good looking settup ethier way.
:)

one week is long enough - it gets stale too quick otherwise
change and diversity is the only thing AvA has going for it. when the same two planes are the only rides, many log out faster than they logged in and the room stays a ghost town

The -5 Hellcat was not a 1943 plane, but the -3 Hellcat was. If I'm not mistaken, the -5 added armor and all metal control surfaces, but had the same engine as the -3.
Also, when did GM make the FM-2? Maybe that would be more appropriate than the F6F-5?
-
The FM2 is a 1944 aircraft too - at least according to Mister Fork's aircraft service dates, it was taken into use in the Pacific in October 1944.
Maybe it would be better to drop the F6F-5 and the N1K2-J from this setup, but then the plane choices would be pretty limited. So let's see a couple of days how it goes with these planes.
-
Your choice Panzzer. Like I said it's a good looking setup ethier way. Nifty is correct on the -5 HCat being a 1944 plane. The F4F stayed on many US CV's while the transition to the -3 HCat was being made in 1943.
