Title: FRAUD!
Post by: TheWobble on February 15, 2001, 09:52:00 AM
at least thats what I would call it.

at least 6 times a day I get this stupid e-mail from free-online.carquotes@virgin.net at the bottom it says "To be removed do not press reply  just click here
type "remove" in the subject line
and your email address in the body"

the address it gives is autoextractor@hotPOP.com

but when I send the mail to it i get a "mail undeleverable" message cause that address doesent exist, therefore i cannot get rid of this amazinhunk,
isnt that against the law?

I am under the impression when you request to be removed from an e-mail list, you verify to the sender that your e-mail address is active. You may or may not be removed plus you are then put on a list of "good" e-mail addresses which is sold to other spammers. Spam is a way of life with e-mail just like junk mail in snail mail and just like all the crap that drops out of most magazines  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Eagler,
I understand it to work the way that you described as well.  If you reply, they know it is a good address.

Its a slimey trick, is what it is.

Then filter the subject matter.  there has to be some common word or phrase that can be filtered.  I would try "If the address contains, 'free-online.carquotes' or just carquotes.
If you are using a email client that does not have really good filtering capabilities go DL a good one (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Sorry if this does not help.

Forward the message to the postmaster general with an explanation of the problem. If that doesn't work (and always has for me), hunt up a hacker and nuke the bastages.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

If that e-mail is arriving through your ISP mail (aka, you not using HOTMAIL or free crap) just tell your ISP that you are being spammed and they will trace it for you.

I am quite sure it is a federal offense to spam an ISP e-mail. Hey, if they are based in the US you may even sue their tulips  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Any comments Skuzzy?
