Title: V for Vendetta
Post by: Sandman on August 17, 2006, 11:36:11 PM
I finally got to see the movie (http://vforvendetta.warnerbros.com/). Unshackled from the craptastic screenwriting of George Lucas, Natalie Portman actually gets to show that she can indeed act.

...and Hugo Weaving. I was never really big on him. I thought that his Agent Smith character was interesting, but cartoonish and then the whole Elrond thing just fell flat because I kept hearing him say, "Mr. Anderson..." in my head. This is probably the best role he's ever played, even though you never see his face.

Story-wise, it's interesting but predictable. They spend the entire movie setting up the climax of the film and when it finally does arrive, it's exactly what you expected. No surprises. It's not really a complaint. Here is a movie with a beginning, a middle, and an end. No sequel opportunity. No hook for the next film. Get in, get out, get done.

I thought it was pretty bland. Portman was better in "Garden State".

I was underwhelmed. Can't even recall much of it now and I can still remember scenes from the '78 movie laserblast though I'm not sure I could ever have told you the plot.

I agree on that statement. Though, she's been good in most non-Lucas movies I've seen her in.

I still enjoyed V for Vendetta. Not saying it was a great movie, but it was enjoyable and was worth putting it in the rental queue.

the one line... "people should not fear their govenments... governments should fear the people."

Was worth the whole movie.   I think that I would want firearms tho when it came to a shootout.   Never could throw a knife worth a damn.

Hmmm... I'm sure I've seen that movie and I can't remember a thing about it. Did it also have the guy from Scrubs?

Honestly... I never realized they were the same person.  And it still doesn't occur to me unless I concsiously think about it.

Yes, I think he actually wrote it. It was a low key cool movie. Nothing really memorable, but comfortable to watch.
