Totally sweet Armed Citizen archive here! (http://www.nraila.org/ArmedCitizen/Default.aspx)
High school freshman Javaris Granger woke to the sound of his mother’s frantic screams and ran to her aid, finding a man slamming a bicycle against the front window in an attempt to break in. Granger yelled at the man to leave while his mother called his father on the phone. She handed him the phone and his father told him to get the guns they used for target shooting and said, “Do what you have to do.” When the intruder kicked in the door, Granger fired five shots, and the man fled. A suspect was later apprehended by police and taken to the hospital with two gunshot wounds. His extensive arrest record included a charge of attacking a police officer the day before he allegedly broke into Granger’s home. “My husband tried to get everyone to learn the safety of a gun,” said Granger’s mother. “It paid off.” (Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 05/30/06)
............................. ............................. ..................
With Houston police and canine units hot on his trail, a man ran from the law through six yards, leaving broken wooden fences in his wake, until he entered a private residence. Police say the suspect made an “overt move toward his pocket and, fearing for his own safety,” the homeowner shot him, wounding him. “He was just somebody running from the police, over nothing, and he caused all this trouble,” said a police sergeant. (Houston Chronicle, Houston, TX, 04/27/06)
............................. ............................. ..................
It seemed odd, even a bit suspicious, when a man knocked on 81-year-old Edna Songer’s door twice in one day, the first time claiming to be looking for a dog and the second asking for a glass of water. Police say that when the man returned for a third time, Songer tucked away a .25-caliber pistol and went to the door, where she saw the man and an accomplice jerking on her screen door until its latch hook came out. Both men were dressed in camouflage and one had a roll of duct tape. Songer shot through the screen door, causing both men to flee the scene. (Hugo Daily News, Hugo, OK, 05/19/06)
............................. ............................. ..................
Mike Smith was napping when the sound of someone breaking into his home jarred him back to consciousness. He clutched a .38-caliber pistol with one hand and dialed 9-1-1 with the other. According to reports, when he stepped into the hallway, he saw the silhouette of a man through his window blinds and an alleged female burglar in the foyer. When she stepped toward him, he gripped the pistol with both hands and fired several shots. Both suspects fled. The woman was apprehended by police and was taken to the hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Her male accomplice was still being sought. “There’s no doubt that committing burglary is extremely dangerous … because you don’t know … if the homeowner is going to be armed,” said Sgt. Terrell Marshall of the Sacramento Police Department. (The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, CA, 05/13/06)
............................. ............................. ..................
Police say that a youth broke into a gun collector’s home to steal from his collection and found a gun, but not the way he intended. The homeowner, a 78-year-old retired firefighter, heard a ruckus and found the intruder in a rear bedroom. The youth hit the man with a pair of pruning shears and ordered him around the house in search of guns and cash. When his assailant went into another room, the man grabbed a .38-caliber revolver and opened fire. The teen was taken to the hospital, suffering from wounds to his arm, buttocks and thigh. He was charged as a juvenile with attempted murder, aggravated battery and home invasion. (Daily Southtown, Tinley Park, IL, 05/25/06)
............................. ............................. ..................
An ex-con with an already extensive criminal rap sheet allegedly broke into a residence with a crowbar. Once inside, he grabbed an additional weapon, a Samurai sword, off the wall and accosted two men and a woman inside the house. The two men proceeded to flee the residence. When the alleged burglar tried to rob the woman, a concealed-carry permit holder, she drew a firearm and shot her assailant, then ran from the house. The man was booked on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, robbery and other charges. (Times-Leader, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 04/28/06)

rpm... what is it about the NRA that you find against your principales?
I have not seen one thing that they supported that I could not agree with.
Is it perhaps that they support politicians that will vote for pro second amendment rights (the ones you CLAIM to support)?
Is that it? They support these politicians because they will get, for us, the right outcome on votes about our second amendment rights...
all the while... you vote for politicians who spit on our second amendment rights and then....
spurn the NRA because... because they use the money we give em to help us win and keep our rights?
Get your wussie democrat politicians to get on the right side of the whole second amendment issue and the NRA will support em.

"Click here to submit a link to a story on the internet of law-abiding Americans using firearms to halt or prevent crime. If you have had a firsthand "Armed Citizen" experience, please call NRA-ILA PR/Communications at 703-267-1193."
Wonder how many short stories you'd get if you had all the events of non-law-abiding citizen using firearms posted,,,,
But with those roaming around, it's probably best to have an armed home.

RPM,
Can you explain please what the ACLU did for folks in New Orleans in 2005 and in 2006 when the Police there confiscated firearms from city residents without a crime being committed, without probable cause, without a warrant, without reasonable suspicion, without any allegations of wrongdoing by the citizen or the firearm?

Red tail, what about what would have happened to those folks if they DIDN'T have guns? Seems like that'd be the more important question.
I'd wager that the chances of being raped/murdered/severely injured etc were orders of magnitude higher for unarmed citizens in those situations than the chances of missed shots hitting someone.
-

they all hit Little Johnny the 3 year old choirboy who was helping a little old lady and 3 blind puppys across the street

Too me it's just a technical detail. People need to practice more. If five where fired, all five shots should have hit. Three in a heart and two between the eyes.
It seems excessive though, two taps should do it.
-
I'll respectively disagree on the excessive comment. If I feel my family is threatened, I'd rather fire two shots too many at the attacker than two shots too few.
-
I read this in the paper this morning. A robber broke into a house with 3 occupants, and then he accidentally shot himself dead.
-
We should not have to lie about it. Breaking into someone's house is a capital offense. We should be open about it, and be able to exercise our right to be safe, without being exposed to the fear of undeserved punishment.
But, the criminal loving libs would not have, would they.

One close to home (http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060816/NEWS01/608160356/1006)
It's not near my neighborhood, but I have a friend who bought a fixer-uper pretty close to where that took place.
-
missed shots? the police are far more likely to have a bunch of stray rounds flying about where people can get hit.
In a home... most misses would hit something to stop or slow down the round... even so... it is worth the risk... one should be aware of the direction one is firing tho and endever to hit the target.
Angus... We hear about the bad guys using guns all the time here... I doubt that any case of a bad guy using a gun for something bad EVER goes unreported unless two bad guys are involved and no one sees it.
The point behind the series is that citizens using firearms to protect themselves or others goes unreported... the FBI claims that firearms are used 1.5 million or more times a year to stop criminals sooooo... it seems like a good thing to get some of the other side out there eh?

yep nifty... a 57 year old woman attacked in her home by a 29 year old mental case....
Now... some of the anti gun guys here say that a cricket paddle or a golf club is the perfect weapon and all anyone really needs...
How frigging selfish and ignorant of them. This is a 57 year old woman who is alive today because she was allowed the tools to defend herself.
I would even go so far as to say that since harsher penalties for gun crime came out that it is more likely that the innocent will be armed while the thug is not...
The best of both worlds.

I can only think of one significant firearm crime in the last 6 months (something that looked like a pistol used to hold up a money lending place).

Do you have a comparison number?
and 1.5 million times seems sort of high...that would in my little old country mean that 1.500 crimes would need to be stopped with firearms to stick to the same percentage. Well, the percentage last year was nil, and actually, (depending a bit on how to define a crime, but say robbery, burglery, murder and rape) I doubt the total commited crime reached that.
Numbers suck.

2 or 3? Fark that, empty the clip
I just hope homeowners insurance covers up the cleanup.
Since my policy tries to dictate what pets I can have, I assume its a matter of time until they try to state which firearms I can own

I was flying one night this week and a squadie said that a double shooting with one person dead had just occured right out front of his residence and the assailent was loose in the neighborhood. Evidently the first one murder in the town in years. He said he was setting there clutching a paring knife. :rofl
I just looked next to my monitor at my Browning BDM.
People, if you don't own a gun for fun, you should at least own one for self defense. The police are not there to prevent crimes, they are there to investigate them.
I heard a report that the Scots were outlawing Swords! It seems that people will commit murder no matter what weapon they have to use. Maybe the clueless will come to understand that you cannot make the world safe with laws, you can just ensure that the free stay that way.

I just joined last month. My gf, who was totally afraid of guns, asked me to buy her a revolver.
Unfortunatly, it took her getting mugged & and me having guns to prove that self defense near a gang infested apt building will have a positive effect. Even though everyone here has been afraid, I won't be anymore, and it's something my new family has come to appreciate.
It's about time gangs should start fearing us.

vulcan... the best way to answer you is that you are not the U.S. You don't have the economy or the population loading or the "diversity"
that is not it entirely tho. You claim there is no murder. I believe you... it is a pretty rare thing in most small U.S. cities. I would ask you... Do you think that firearms are the only way to murder and that only illegal firearms are capable of killing? Do you honestly think that it is your firearms laws that giving you a zero murder rate?
the several armed robberies in my small town were committed by people from large cities who came here for the one purpose of the robbery... one body that was dumped here came from a city with a population of over 150k.
Both the swiss and the japs have very low murder rates...one is the best armed in the world and one is the least. I don't want to live either place... I would not fit in. I would not fit in in your country either.
In our country.... thousands of murders are committed every day without firearms. We also have a violent underclass that is trying to control the drug trade. they are gonna be violent no matter what the laws.

This brings up a questions, I have always wondered how a gun crazed NRA supporter fits in in Kalifornia? :D
I think at minimum you better stay away from San Francisco, unless you puts some flowers in your hair. :rofl

Area-wise, most of California isn't too bad. San Francisco or Berkeley aren't really representative of the whole state.
This doesn't mean there aren't dumb state laws, of course. Don't get me started on the SKS issue....

dago... have you ever been to kalifornia? It is a very large state.
My area was very lightly populated and I could, until very recently shoot just about anywhere.
The politics of my state are getting worse and the prices to live are very high.... I can still move to areas in kalifornia where I can shoot off the back porch and get a concealled carry permit without much problem but...
I am going to sell my home and move to another state when I shortly retire in any case.

I'm sorry...I missed something.
Just exactly where is the little Paradise-on-Earth that we should all aspire to emulate? Where nothing is wrong, everybody is safe, happy and employed? Where there are no disenfranchised persons, no crime, no strife, and no dissent?
I am unfamiliar with such a place, personally.
Check to see if you live in a glass house before throwing stones...

Where I used to live, the city rented time at a local range for their officers to undergo remedial training. My wife and I were both there practicing one time while the lackies were on the other half of the lanes. We both decided we would run and risk them shooting at us--they couldn't hit diddly! Half of them still tensed up before pulling the trigger. :lol

In California carrying a loaded firearm on your person is only a misdemeanor, 12031PC... a 3" double edged knife or a 'baton', is a felony 12020PC.
I've had a CCW since 1990, if they ever decide to take it.. I'll still carry and pay the fine if caught.. considering it a CCW tax.

Your chances of getting a CCW in Ca are slim. The county you live in has issued 275 CCWs... 1 in every 610 residents.
Only a COP (chief of police) or Sheriff of the area where you live can issue you a CCW.. They can require classes, training, background and a psych evaluation. You can pass everything, and still be denied at the whim of the Sheriff or COP.
IF you get lucky enough, meaning you have a reason the Sheriff or COP agrees with.. a civilian CCW is good for either 90 days, or 2 years; Judicial 3 yrs, reserve police / custody 4yrs.
The one person I know who has a CCW is a Jeweler who at times carries a million+ in merchandise.. unfortunately being a law abiding solid citizen isn't enough.
I've had a CCW since 1990, issued by the COP who hired me... If I had to apply for one as a regular Joe, I probably get denied because I don't have a reason the officials deem important enough.
Edit: if you want to apply for a CCW in Ca, fill out these:

Some confusing comments on here. America has 40 to 45 murders a day, not 'thousands' (I assume that comment wasn't literal). The worst parts of America have the tightest gun laws and vice-versa.
In another thread I listed numerous cities in South Africa and South America which have enormous levels of homicides - in parts of the world which have tight gun laws. New York has long had tight-arse gun laws as well.
Gun killers in almost every case do not purchase their guns legally as you get registered and stuff. Is that a surprise?
-
xmarine... many of my friends have just gotten their cc permits in northern kalifornia counties like butte. It is not that difficult. There are some free counties in northern kalifornia unlike where you live.
I will probly move to arizona in any case. When too many metrosexuals and los angeles dwellers move there and screw it up I will move somewhere else.
lazs
-
Lazs, when are you moving to Arizona?
A while back you mentionned you could build hotrods for cheap..
-
moot...Build hot rods for cheap? I probly said that I build em for cheap... that is in contrast to the 60-300k ones that all the shops are building and that I have no interest in.
I just throw stuff together in the garage and put it in primer and drive the crap outta it. They are scorned as "rat rods" by the elite.
A good DVD series is "mad fabricators society" on the culture of rat rods...
Hot rods should be built by the owner. The owner should know what kind of engine and trans is in it. It shouldn't look like a lump of candy left out in the sun a little too long either.
I do most things cheap so that I can do more of em.. I reload ammo so that I can shoot thousands of rounds instead of hundreds. I'm not a wealthy guy.
I get a kick out of all the people who ask me when am I gonna paint the Healey. "it will look really good when you finish it."
lazs

Yes that's what I have in mind.
In a few months, then?

moot... if I ever am around you I will be glad to help you build a hot rod.

WHAT'S GONE WRONG? :huh :O A gun thread that turned into a polite discussion about hot rods?
Oh yeah, that's right. Beet1e is gone:rofl
-
to me... guns and hot rods and real motorcycles go together. Or.. at least they used to.
The cars in those pics are deceptively expensive. Some guys are spending more on "semi flat" paint jobs than on show car paint jobs to get the look we got with rattle cans or ancient compressors in the garage on dirt floors.
the old motors cost more than pumped up small block chevies and sometimes more than a big block. Priced a 37 lasalle trans lately? How bout a quick change rear end?
In the old days I put 371 and 394 olds rocket and buick nailhead V8's in chevies and fords because they were $50 at the wrecking yard and made over 300 hp when small block chevies making 180 hp were $500.. those days.. and the reason for em... are gone. A muncie 4 speed can be had for a couple hundred bucks.... something we craved back then. Small block chevie for $50 or so.... my son bought a 454 out of a motor home for $200 and put in his $800 60 chevy 2 door coupe.
the point behind hot rods and guns is the same.... choice and... individualism.
a lot of the guys on this board will die never understanding either.

yep.. old stuff is fun.
You can still build neat hot rods for cheap but you may not get to build a 32 ford.
seen a 55 2 door hardtop pontiac mostly all there... $500 woulda drove it away... My son let a 57 buick split window get away that he had paid $800 for and it had a running nailhead in it.
