Title: Setting up AH for best Gameplay
Post by: sackmanjay on August 19, 2006, 08:43:23 AM
Ola fellow pilots! I've been playing online flight sims since AW (the first one)and I made the transition to AH when Aw died. Love the game but have to drop subscription due to a new baby and such. Well, now I am back...but I need help.
I now have a gaming laptop and wireless conncection which puts out a good connection and all...but I am having trouble with my frame rate bouncing around anywhere from 48 -72 which sucks when you lining up a shot. Can anyone help me optimize this PC and game. Maybe offer exactly what services to have on, currently I got 37 running. ANYTHING wuld be good. I paid 6 months in advance and I kinda want to get the most out of it.

48-72 is a great frame rate, no way that will cause you to miss someone unless you arent a good shot.  run msconfig and uncheck all unwanted applications. there should only be around 5-6 running max, the rest are spam

No other applications running besides AH. If frame rate is that good is there anything alse that can cause jumps and (I guess the term now is) stutters?

Wireless network sucks for Internet gaming.

As for stuff running in background..I only have 14 at start up.

Try running game with no skins, 256 texture size, and screen resolution at 1024x768.

Turn down detail sliders a touch till it smooths out.

sackmanjay:

There is a small program called FSAutoStart (google will find it) and it shows all applications and services running and gives a recommendation about each. You can stop the services and automatically launch AH. The services will restart after you quit AH.

Posting your system specs is always a good idea to get better answers faster. Turning down sound acceleration one notch can improve stutters in some cases.

Rolex, I tried downloading the proggie, but each time it gives me an error when I go to install it.

I've downloaded 1.1 and I'm using Win XP pro.

edit: never mind, its ok now... not sure why I was getting that error on installation.

Search for "enditall". Not sure if it is still available. I use it with winxp home. By defult will close most unnecessary programs. With a little research you can set it up to close others that are not needed.

Put mouse over each process and info on process will display in right-hand window, including recommendation for action.

Click action and select the action for the process in pulldown.

Select the program you want to run.

Start FSAutoStart from desktop shortcut. Actions saved for that profile will execute (shutdown or run as appropriate) and game will start automatically.

Processes restart after game closes.
