WoW lets you prance around like Richard Simmons with pointy ears and tights if you swing that way.

If you just want to walk around, try second life.  Mostly user created content in there, fairly interesting.

Dungeons and Dragons Online is a bit of fun.

Lord of the Rings Online is comin soon ..in beta atm.. can sign up for it.
I've just looked at some of the screen shots and read a bit of the forums so far .. lookin forward to playin it.

Both have very nice looking environments with LoTR being more of an 'outside' adventure and D&D focused more on dungeon crawls.

(yes .. I have jumped in my seat when a trap went off during a dungeon crawl in D&D ..video, sounds, effects, characters ..it's all good :)

Everquest 2 combines both ..but ..amazing to say .. the graphic quality is not as high as the above.

Just my 2 copper.

-GE (WoW just seems too simplistic, kinda cartoony ..no doubt the art director there thinks it 'pops' ..I prefer a more 'realistic' look.)

"Are there any online games like Runescape?? That allows you to walk around and do stuff"

I tried Runescape for a time.  I never met another player over age 20.  I'm sure they exist, but non-kids must be exceedingly rare in that game.  The typical age was about 13-15, and it was undoubtedly the worst community I've ever experienced in any multiplayer game I've played.

There are lots of fairly "open-ended" multiplayer games.  Here are a few which have signifigant followings in the US, as well as the companies responsible for them.  The games are "fantasy-based" unless otherwise noted.  Since you're familiar with Runescape, you should already be aware of the time commitments most of these types of games require.  None of the games in this list are free.

Ultima Online--EA
Dark Age of Camelot--Mythic
EVE Online (sci-fi)--CCP
Everquest--SOE
Everquest 2--SOE
Star Wars Galaxies (sci-fi)--SOE/Lucasarts
World of Warcraft--Blizzard
Asheron's Call--Turbine
City of Heroes (comic book style)--NCsoft
Final Fantasy XI--Square/Enix
Lineage2--NCsoft

Upcomming in the next 12 months or so:

Warhammer Online--Mythic
Vanguard:  Saga of Heroes--SOE/Sigil
Age of Conan--Funcom
Lord of the Rings Online--Turbine

Try Last Chaos and Hero Online.  Both are free MMOs that are farely fun.

Oh and War Rock is another free Asian MMO but a first person shooter like BF2 with less bugs.

ack-ack

Did they ever make a Star Trek game that the ships acted like warships fighting, instead of fighters?

If you want to walk around and do stuff, can't you just go outside? Or do you not have full use of your legs?

What game would be like Diablo II (I have D2 but after 5 years I'm burned out on it)? I'm just looking for something to pass a little time, not something I have to study :)

I was thinking about comming back here, but it impresses more as work than fun:p

My son (10) asked ages ago if he could play Run Escape. I didn't know what he was on about until I spoke to one of his pals. He's 12 now and has pretty sure grown out of Runescape! It is definitely a kids intro to MMORG and very safe.I think I'll let him playEverquest. He's certainly no AH freak like me lol!

If wargaming is your thing, Battlefield 2 takes some licking.

Then you want Guild Wars, or Neverwinter Nights.

If you're like me, and only play AH2 & WoW... but want something fun to play with friends... coad ur own (http://www.irrforge.org/index.php/Main_Page)

though I would like to know what HTC uses for a physics API. Open-source, commercial license, or home brewed?

Don't have the patience for that anymore either. There was time when I knew what Bresenham's algorithm was :) I think I'm reverting to an ape. I just like to pound on things now :)
