All hail the might Hurri Mk1 :D

It sucks in the MA while flying an older plane and you come across another old plane but you can't keep the other bananas from coming into the fight to "help" you out with the uber con (109E4) with their Tempest.  Schatzi and I had a few fights like this a few months ago.  But this arena would help fix that :) Great idea!!

The A6M5 is not "early war", being introduced in mid 1943. Moreover, one could certainly argue that the F4U-1 should be added as it is a 1942 vintage fighter (deliveries beginning in October of 1942).

Frankly, I don't see this happening. Not enough resources and the desire to maintain the back-up arena as a genuine back-up will probably get in the way. Nonetheless, it would be a fun alternative to the current MA.

My regards,

Widewing

Also, the FM-2 wasn't early-war, either. 1944, I think.

A few mid-war planes thrown in for gameplay.

I think this is a GREAT idea!
maybe need a lil tweaking and a determination made on what year the cutoff is.
maybe has a couple of midwar era planes as perk rides.

Id love to fly my p40 without worrying about some late war era p51 or 190 comming along and ruining my fun :furious

This sounds very good, and it would be all the more reason to bring sum more early war planes into the game.
(gladiator,beufighter,FRENCH PLANES, etc)

Without wanting to get into a laboured discussion about what defines "early, mid or late",  WW2 is generally accepted as starting Sept 1939 & ending Aug 1945.  Thus October 1942 is in the second half of the conflict and any plane introduced then can't be seriously considered an "early" war plane.

An EPA would be a fine idea IMO.

However it's unlikely to happen because America wasn't at war in the early stages of WW2 and the majority of AH subscribers are Americans and, not unnaturally, want to fly US planes.

Regards.

If we're talking 1941 for the US, for AH fighters, it would be the P-40B, P-40E, and F4F-4.

If we're talking 1942, it would be those and the P-38G, F4U-1, F4U-1C, and F4U-1D.

You could probably add the P-47D-11 to the 1941 time period if you are willing have it as a substitute for the P-47B.  The P-47B and P-47D-11 both have 2000 HP military power and performed about the same without WEP.  The P-47B has no WEP, and the P-47D-11 has 2300 HP with WEP.  The P-47D-11 also has a drop tank available, which the P-47B did not have.

Here are dates of first delivery of US fighters, from America's Hundred Thousand, by Dean.  Note that these are dates of first delivery to the military, not date of first flight of the model.

P-38, June, 1941
P-38D, July, 1941
P-38E, Oct., 1941
P-38F, Feb., 1942
P-38G, June, 1942

P-40F, Jan., 1942
P-40K, May, 1942
P-40L, Jan., 1943
P-40M, March, 1943

Thought they had another arena similiar to this already?  that very rarely has many people in it.

AFAIK, no F4U-1Cs or 1Ds saw action until late 1944/early 1945. 1943 was the F4U-1, with early 1As towards the end of the year.

Good point.  That chart I put up is only date of first delivery to the military of any number of aircraft, not when they actually saw action.

Another table perhaps of interest

Price of aircraft from America's Hundred Thousand:

P-47, $100,000
P-38, $98,000
F4U, $75,000
P-51, $50,000
F6F, $50,000
P-40, $40,000
