I spent a few hours tonight doing the easy 95% part of a new skin for the LA-5FN; White 52 "Mongolskii Arat" belonging to Nikoli Pushkin, 2 GIAP, 10/43. Part of the design is the cyrillic inscription under the cockpit...unfortunatly it mirrors on the other side. Oddly the fuselage number does not mirror, so there's a break point somewhere.
No way to fix this? Is that why the default white 14 of Kozhedub (and Byrzgalov and Evstigneev), 240IAP doesn't have Vasilly V. Konev's inscription?
-
yes and its also why there are hardly any la5fn skins.
you will notice the nose mirrors as well as the tail plane surfaces, its really a pain to work with
-
Nose back past the cockpit in fact. I did a lovely job of re-maiking the heat shield and exhaust soot patten on the port side and on testing discovered the starboard side looked suspiciously similar. I suppose putting a slogan under the cockpit was wishful thinking, but the number didn't copy over. Same deal when I put in the standard camoflage for the top side.
You have the "pain" part right! Does the La-7 have the same problems?
-
the la7 has a lot less problems but still a pain i dont think you can get a slogan on that one either because of mirroring
-
Oh well. Not many people here can read Russian anyway. Mongolskii Arat sans the Mongolskii Arat...
Otherwise I'm in touch-up and weathering mode. Getting the FN badge on the cowl was a blast...it looks like a blob up close, but skinned it looks fine.

Does anyone know where the spinner color is hidden? Need a red spinner for my yellow cowl. Rogerdee?
Otherwise I'm about ready to post this beast for commentary. My first skin.
