Been playing for about 2 weeks now and just begining to get a handle on the rules...but this leads me some questions on general 'not in the rulebook' type conduct.
Vulching: I got a taste of it last night, and it doesnt taste good to be on the business end of a vulching session... But although I was pissed , I thought it was a viable tactic, as the reds were trying desperately to finish our base off, and to keep fighters grounded...also seems pretty historically acurate tactic...comments?
HO'ing (sp?): From what I understand this is getting yourself in a nose to nose engagement, while spraying bullets at the enemy especailly at longer ranges. Not clear why this is unnacceptable, am I understanding the term correctly? As a noob I ALWAYS find myself in this situation.
Ramming: OK...I find myself out of Ammo, low on fuel...cant get back to base, etc...Why not take a red down with me?
Killing Parachuters: Not exactly noble, but damn its fun isnt it ?

the following is just my opinion based on a few weeks play
vulching - it happens.. up from a different field if it bothers you
HOing - again it happens.. learn how to avoid it. Personally I don't waste the ammo on a low percentage shot.
Ramming - not cool
Killing parachuters - Only if they're dropping on your base I'd never shoot down an enemy pilot chute.
I'm still a noob too dude I'm sure some of the old vets have other opinions

All of the above are valid.
Things that are less valid while doing some of the above:
1) Blowing past multiple cons not fighting just so you can make one or two high speed passes down a runway to vulch, LAME. If you are playing the game why not just fight the cons you past up. If you just want target practice you might as well fly offline or better yet go to the TA.
2) Getting into good 1 Vs 1 and going strait for the HO, LAME. Lets face it, it's the fight that makes the game, so when you get those rare chances where someone actually wants to fight, why sell yourself short with a 50/50 Ho.
3) Ramming just kinda silly.
4) Chute shooting - Always, anyone that is afraid to ride it in, is just a score potato biotch so shoot em. :aok

Ramming is the only one I see as a real no no, head on's are more of a mutual thing, but when youve flow many miles to an nme held base and the defenders start ramming in il2's/LA's it gets seriously lame, all he has to do is reup, and your stuck flying for ten minutes only to get rammed or HO'd.
I noticed alot of La drivers bread and butter is going emediatly into vertical manuvers seeking an ez HO, mostly resulting in a collision, the silly thing is that ALOT of guys do this, its like flying against a piloted air to air missle.
Anything slow seems to attract alot more ramming than usual.
More than once ive been in a bomber and had a pilot either pull up into my belly, ram into me from the sides, or just blow right through me from the 6 position.
all frustrating but I guess it just happens like homeboy said.

Go ahead and try to ram them. If you succeed, chances are you're the only one who's going to take damage anyway.

Ramming isnt an option, because of net lag and the collision model it requires. To make the long (and frequently misunderstood) story short....when you ram something the only one hurt is you.

As far as parachuters, well, live it up if you have the ammo to waste. Just be aware that as enemy objects, if you run into them they will damage you far more than you think they should.

Mars, a squaddie just explained the scoring to me. I've been bailing just because it seemed like the right thing to do. Henceforth I shall now auger in and 'die' honorably :lol what am I going to do with perk points for the next year or so anyway?
however if YOURE around I'll bail, pull down my pants, moon you, and ping at you with my 45 all the way down ;)

Nope. It's funny. LAME is letting some stranger spend your $15 for you.
Any noob who wants a good chuckle should do this as much as possible.... race down the runway like pac-man on crack, depress the cartoon bullet button at will, repeat.
Be sure to target, with prejudice, the self proclaimed "AH vets" who actually believe out-cartooning a child means they have 'skill'. These emotionally fragile wanna-be alpha males will completely freak out for minutes of comedy gold.
Have your friends gather around to partake in the laughter, it'll make all the frustrations of being new vanish.. if only for a minute.
Remember, this is a war sim, cheap harassment demoralizes the enemy causing them to seek the comfort of illicit drugs & masturbation.

I quickly learned that while riding your imaginary plane down to the Eath in a ball of flames is the popular 'manly' thing to do... same as taking on 5 LA's in a P40.. it screws up your score in the end.
One thing that's improved my k/D alot is bailing out, even after being shot out of the sky a capture or successful bail isn't a death. If I'm shot to hell and being chased; bail. If I'm out numbered and it looks like I can't run; bail. Someone gets a cheap proxy kill and I don't get a needless death.
Becuase God forbid you actually fight in a combat flight sim LOLH, what a maroon.

RyanCS, I wouldn't recommend the ramming. The way the program is set up all you will do is die while the other guy flys off without a scratch. Before you get into a head long discussion how this is wrong be advised this is a dead horse topic that has already been whipped.
As for the other things, hey, if you find it fun then vulch, HO and shoot all the chutes you want. Just remember, vulching, HOing, and chute shooting is a two way street so, when it happens to you don't forget to smile.

Just remember the enemy posts here too, these dogs will try to decieve you into tactics that are favorible to them.
Ignore their propaganda to be passive. War is about being aggressive, so yank that joystick with purpose!
They'll tell you not to take a HO (head On) shot so you wont fire when they dump a load on your face. Dont "vulch" so they can take off and shoot you, or your fellow countrymen down. Dont "fly" this or that high performance plane, so you're an easier target. Dont be a "toolshedder" or "milkrunner' and deprive them of their resources.
Before taking any advice, be sure you're not being fed misinformation by an enemy agent. Check his, or her ID. If you detect any flapdoodle, report this right away.
Tools, outside AH, are available to resist these fork tongue agents who will do their best to enslave you mentally, with the goal of turning you into a double agent or passive sissylala who grows a pony tail, hugs trees and wears eyeliner.

I'd recommend you fly how you want and shoot every damn chute you see, because, it's teh awesome! If you want to ram someone, GO FOR IT! Just don't ram from behind, some guys like it...other don't.
If you want to take a 50/50 head on shot, DO IT! Just my opinion, but take every shot you can, you never know when the next one will come up.
If someone is upping at a field with enemy fighters above it, it's their fault for getting vulched. You do what you gotta do and have fun.

There are only 3 "rules". Don't swear or act like an ass, don't shoot greens, and don't ram. The first one will get you muted, squelched, reported, or treated in kind, and the other 2 will kill you.

All of the above but don't forget to shoot chutes that bail over your field. These little buggers have a habit of turning into Rambo. They splash on the camo. Some have eye liner as well. Then they walk onto your base all limp wristed like holding their weapon before them.

Vulching- fun to do, fun to try to get up w/ an IL2 and whack a few that are doing it to me. You just have to be the type of player where stats and deaths dont bother you.
Hoing- it takes 2. They CAN be avoided, and the guy isnt simply going to be at an advantage if you avoid. HOing is the child of Plane selection and frustration. People who take rocket rides and are always missing the evading plane that turns better, drives them not into a slower plane, but to taking the shots they have the best chance of hitting something. The HO.
Ramming- Related to HOing. 99% of the time both parties didnt do enough to get out of the way. Some rams happen in a slow close fight where you just can't avoid it. But usually its on the initial merge, and I think this is the type most refer to. Some happen on dead 6, from a guy not pulling off in time. Maybe framerate or lag has a factor in that type.
Shooting chutes- Personally I dont see the reason to bail out. You have left your plane and are dead anyways. Some guys bail out to draw aa fire, or to get a pilot in a maproom. Im not sure if the pilot is looking for a better score by bailing as opposed to dying completely, but it wouldnt bother me to be shot in a chute ( rarely do it, usually too low) and I will kill them if it looks like they have plans like that above.

Avoid HO's when posible, you will live longer. Chute shooting is target practice. I eject all the time just so I can get back to tower quicker and back into my death trap.

That's a total bunch of BS. I am in B24's, homeboy lgay or spittard comes screaming in and just rams straight through me, I go down in flames and he flies away. I'm flying straight and level on autopilot so I can man the guns. I don't think "I" rammed "him".
This happens frequently for me. I have survived a grand total of 3-4 collisions since I've been playing AH, period, and interestingly they have all been when "I" rammed into them.
Anyway....
Vulching - knock yourself out. Nothing wrong with it. If you are trying to take a field, why would you want to LET the enemy up? The alternative is to knock out the hangars and that just garners a whole other set of whines from the fighter jocks that just want to rack up kills. Otherwise, you'd never be able to take a base.
HOing - I try to avoid it, and usually do not make the first attempt/shot at it, but if some dweeb tries to HO me, I'll HO back, especially if I'm in a cannon plane and he isn't. Just last night had a pony driver came in on my 190D9 and went straight for the HO. I avoided and started to fight, he turns and comes right back in for another HO, so I turned him into an ack puff with the cannons. He didn't hit me with a single round :-)
Shooting chutes - knock yourself out. I don't go chasing them down, but if presented, I'll blast them out of the sky. Besides, I'm doing them a favor and saving them that long ride down. :aok Any notion of "honor" and all that silliness is just that. :rolleyes: It's a game, not as if you are really getting killed.
Exploiting known bugs - that one is cheap. Only no skill losers need to do that.
And the bottom line: It's your $15 every month, play how you want to.

I accidentally scraped a flight of B17's last night which clipped my wing off and I went spinning to earth. He flew on I'm sure laughing his rear off at my blatent stupidity and rightly so :)
