Title: Prop Strike Sound Removal
Post by: RELIC on August 24, 2006, 12:03:58 PM
I'm having a hell of a time trying to lower the sound your prop makes hitting the ground while landing/ditching.  I rarely land with gear down and when the speakers/headphones are cranked up the sound of that prop hitting the runway is most annoying.  I've tried going over the list of sounds but can't seem to find the culprit.  Anyone know what this sound is labelled?

Thanks!

Not to be a goober, but why don't you just try LANDING your plane instead of wiping out on the runway?

uh, ok.

Anyways, I think since v2.08 came out the sounds were removed from the sounds dir and put into a single sounds.res file.  If you can find a real old install of AH you could probably get the filename for the dragging sound, otherwise maybe a hex editor and open up sounds.res.

Using your gear would certainly help keep the prop strike sound at bay. :D

Could it be damage1.wav in your Aces High II \ sounds folder?
I do not see a ingame listing for this however in the Game Sounds menu.

Or how about the scrape.wav file? There is a listing for that one ingame.

EDIT- there  is a damage listing ingame that references damage1, try both damage and scrape ingame.

To each his own but landing isn't really hard if you practice at it.  There are several good threads in this forum that give great step by step advice on how to do it.  Not that I land wo damage EVERY time but it would keep the prop sound at bay nicely

fuzeman,

I'll try the damage1 - but if I recall I already tried that and it didn't work.  I have not given the scrape.wav a shot because I figured it wasn't the scraping sound but the prop strike I'm trying to eliminate, BUT perhaps both sounds are combined in the same wav so I'll give that a shot.

That is correct.
Damage1 is the initial impact and the scrape is the slide along the ground.
I tried them just now you have to adjust both.
Actually the scrape sound is like the impact and slide but you do need to lower both.

If you just put 0 length .wav files in the sounds folder will it not play?

Not positive but I think the game would try to get the file even it it wasnt there and cause problems. Just as easy to lower in game volume of that sound.
I suppose you could make a very short blank sound and rename it for every sound you don't want but that could be time consuming.
