This is absolutely unbelievable, and why New Orleans has no real chance.
I am absolutely repulsed by our Mayor.

During the interview, conducted by CBS’ Byron Pitts, Nagin was asked about the city’s slow recovery and the large amount of mess that remains in many of the streets.
Nagin responded by questioning New York’s recovery at the World Trade Center. “That’s alright,” he said. “You guys in New York can’t get a hole in the ground fixed and it’s five years later, so let’s be fair.”
Nagin made the comment after telling Pitts that the majority of the debris on public land had been cleared and that most of the remaining debris was at privately owned homes and businesses that they couldn’t clear without permission. Pitts then responded by pointing out damaged cars in the street and a house washed partially into the street.
Nagin’s interview will be shown in its entirety on 60 Minutes Sunday night.

How is the hurricane situation over there now? Havent heard anything on the news here about any hurricanes so i guess its pretty calm so far.. :)
The season lasts until the end of september, or is it october?

we are in the "20 year cycle" of constant and incredibly powerful storms!
we have had so many already this year we havn't had time to tell anyone!:lol
season ends end of octoberish officialy I think, but i believe we have "poached" a storm or 2 in November before.

I honestly wish I could take back the donation I gave to the red cross katrina fund. Giving it to a random band of airport Krishnas would have been a better investment in humanity.

So far its been fairly quiet, but we are just entering the peak of the season. It shouldn't be anything like last year, but its still more active than average.
All eyes are on tropical depression #5 right now.

Right now, this looks to be a Mexico or Texas storm.
The real end of the season is December 1st, but Louisiana is pretty safe after mid October.

George Bush does not like black people...NO survivors don't like Bush either.
I found it funny that he had a press conference with a Hurricane Katrina victim(white)and his almost exact words were "This is someone I am comfortable talking with". Guess the majority of those affected down there(black) didnt wanna force good words about ya on TV, eh Georgie. :mad:

Three named storms (with a fourth probably being named today or tomorrow sometime) before September is above average, I think. I'm not looking at statistics, but usually we may get 1 or two named storms before September. In September the activity increases dramatically.
Numbers aside, there is a lot of shear in the Atlantic, Caribbean and gulf so that it keeping a lot of tropical waves from developing. I think about 6 or 7 waves have passed through the Caribbean/GOM so far this year. That's a lot to have before September, and I'm awfully glad for the shear. Should this shear relax, things are going to get very busy.

I think instead of helicopter airlifts, tens of thousands of inflatable coleman rafts should have been dropped on New Orleans. Would have gotten the people out alot quicker.
I did see a bunch of people screaming for food about 24 hours after Katrina hit. I guess they didn't realize that humans can go about two months without food.
If they do rebuild New Orleans, I suggest opening a huge factory so that all the poor people can have jobs. If your too poor to be able to leave your own city, even if just for a few days, then you have major problems. Plus that would allow them to meet the conditions of their parole (having a job and all).

Theres a tropical storm heading for Cuda then the NO area that will be about a level 3 or 4 hurricane. Its all predictions so far tho.
IF it hits NO hopefully the crap thats left will end up in nagan's front yard.

BTW, I have nothing aganst the survivors and the the people who live down there. Good luck to all you. I know my donations to the red cross werent the kind that the pople down there need, but it was all I had.
I only dislike nagan. I meant crap by mostly him. So pretty much I meant I want him to end up in his front yard....

I dislike him also, but its out of my control. I vote, but because of my political leanings, its almost meaningless in this city. I was just kidding anyway. I live on some of the highest ground in New Orleans. Hopefully its high enough :)

If all of New York was unlivable or under water guliano would have had more to do then pose for a week and go on the speaking tour.
If he had been a democrat and done exaclty the same things as he did many on this board would have critisised him.
If the mayor of New Orleans was a republican critisising a democratic president then most on thsi board would be supporting him.

The last one above is the sole response of someone who is uneducated in the ways that his OWN CITY'S LEVEES are designed. Let's not get away with the FACT that a Levee system designed to withstand Category 3 Hurricanes, stood up to a Category 4 Hurricane with a Category 5 Storm surge. His analogy was bogus.
He's comparing the conceptualization and construction of a monument that is designed to commemorate 9/11, honor its heroes and its innocent, not to mention replace one of the greatest corporate edifices in human history,all in a way that will remain timeless for all of foreseable human history, to cleaning a giant open sewer.
What they're doing in Battery Park requires time, consideration and care(you can say whatever you want about the chosen design, but the point is valid). Futhermore, it is not, as of now, an essential element of the city. Life will go on without it, which gives them ample time to do it right. What they should be doing in New Orleans should be done as fast as possible because life can't go on without it. That's the difference.
The guy was on the defensive, and instead of addressing the issue, decided to make a crude, irrelevant reference to a completely dissimilar situation.

We know it here. I went to the same high school as Nagin - O.Perry Walker Sr. High School.
We went to the same dances. He's a suburban kid trying to pretend he grew up in the inner city. That's why he's being so crude. Its his attempt to appeal to inner city African-Americans. He fails miserably.
He was so not black when he first ran, the African Americans in New Orleans called him Ray Reagan. To get closer to those people, he's adopted stupid speak.
That's really all there is to it - that and O.P Walker wasn't a great school. After a Catholic elementary education, I never opened a book in OP Walker and graduated with a 3.8 average (believe me- this is NOT a boast).
