Title: Migration problems -- XP Pro misbehaving; Firefox question
Post by: Simaril on August 27, 2006, 08:16:57 PM
Quick questions.

For some insane reason, whenever I try to enable "show quick launch" on the taskbar, the darn bar takes on double height and refuses to let me drag it to single bar height. As soon as I deselect quick launch toolbar, I can drag it to single height again.

Second, I cant get my settings from Firefox and Thunderbird to show up on the new install. I copied the profile folder from the old computer, and pasted into the appropriate place on the new one....but no joy.

Lastly, I cant get the Saitek software to recognize the X52...no matter what USB port I put it in, I still get the "must insert a supported controller" message when I try to load the sst.

Sigh. Havent even gotten to take off in AH yet.

OK figured out the problem with firefox/thunderbird....profiles are in windows/application data/mozilla/profiles, not in program files/firefox/.../profiles.

In taskbar properties.... is the "fixed taskbar" box checked? If yes, thats keeping you from changing size of the quicklaunch bar.

As for your X52..... do the buttons light up? Does it show in device manager?

Drag your quick launch bar rightward till you can see all the icons in there.
Then drag the toolbar back to a single bar.

Log off, & back in to save settings.

In short I suspect you have too many items for the quick launch to show in a single line. Hence the jump to double.

Might want to consider moving some of those onto desktop shortcuts or start menu if thats the case.

Course if I'm all wrong please ignore, just an ol fart here flapping his gums.

Taskbar is a real puzzle. I have tried it locked and unlocked, but same result. When I have it unlocked, I can't drag the separator bar to the side to allow more space for the quick start. It acts as if the toolbar space for program tabs is too big....in fact, thats exactly what its acting like. Unfortunatiely I cant find anything to change that.

The X52 does light up when connected. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and the SST software, but it acts a bit weird. Normally when the SST installer wont run without the stick being connected, and it seems that the installer is seeing the stick. However, SST creates numeroous virtual devices (like mouse, keyboard, etc) and only a couple of these seem to be created before it thinks its done. Then I cant get the profle manager(the selector component)  or the profile editor to start because they think there isnt a Saitek device onboard.

Kayyy....taskbar fixed, though for some reason the quick launch is all the way to the LEFT instead of all the way to the right like it should be. I'll live with it!
