What is the difference between a normal modern (current year, last year) Crown Victoria and the "Police Interceptor" version of the same vehicle, besides the VIN?? I don't know myself but always wondered.

Well the Crown Vic is not really a Police Interceptor, but that`s another subject. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Nothing really different in the VIN. Plant, year, so on. If engine is different, that will be on the VIN.
Options real difference. Option codes will tell you every option on the car, and thats whats seperates any car model. (exp. Heavy Duty suspention = FE3 for 1988 Oldsmobile) Find the list in the trunk, deck lid, spare tire cover and so on.
I remember on a 1990 Camero Z28 the high performance option code was G90. One of the things included was the 275HP Corvette LT1 engine. (became standard engine in next Z28 body style)
Every police department that used that car as a Police Interceptor (Arizona was one) had the G90 package.

Reading your question again, I might have not answered your question completely or correctly.
Things that the Police Crown Vics have over regular Crown Vics:
(example for possibles, not 100% sure on that model)
-best available engine
-heavy duty cooling system
-heavy duty suspension
-transmission cooler
-aircraft coolant hose clamps
-silicone hoses
-less restrictive dual outlet exhaust
-better fan clutch
-coolant pressure restrictor for heater core
-full size spare
-reinforced seats
-dome light doesn`t work when open door
-spot lamp of course (damn they are bright)
and on and on and on............
95% if not all options you can order yourself.

Elwood:
It's got a cop motor of four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tyres, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what?
Jake:
Fix the cigarette lighter.
