Title: Norton's out, BitDefender in...
Post by: Gunthr on August 28, 2006, 09:28:26 AM
Just installed BitDefender Standard after years of running nothing but Norton's.   A full scan found 2 virii in 6 infected files that were not found by Norton's.  I don't know if that is significant or not, but it seems promising.  Hope I didn't make a mistake... seems pretty good so far.

Been very pleased with Zone Alarm...has good ratings, very easy to use, much smaller and more efficient than any Norton product.

EDITAlso, got it for free...Amazon had a rebate that killed off what was left after the competitive upgrade offer from Zone Alarm.

On a side note, was installing utilities for the new motherboard and got to the one Asus called "antivirus utility." Figured it was a mobo tweak, so loaded it....and got suspicious when it took FOREVER to install.

Yep, the "antivirus utility" from Asus was Norton Internet Security combo, with firewall, antivirus, parental controls.

Took a long time to uninstall, too. :lol

I also run zone alarm firewall. So your saying zone alarm antivirus works well?

Yeah, the ZA antivirus hasnt failed me yet. The program control and update processes are MUCH less intrusive than Norton, and do their job much faster.

Cant compare easily with antivirus, but I HAVE run multiple spyware agents back to back...and I dont think I've found much left after ZA finishes.

The first (and last) time I used ZA, it just stopped working. About a week after I got it, it jut said that it wasn't working and wouldn't come back online.

Norton leaves junk all over your systen. Even after you uninstall it, there's files left there. I never have cared for it. I use Avast, Zone Alarm, Ad-aware, spybot S&D and Windows Defender... all free. Never have any problems.                                                             Oz

I bought one copy of Norton years ago. I'm still using it. Every time you format, you get a new subscription. I'll be dumping it on the next format, though.
