and salutations from 9Yds!
   I have purchased while in whirlwind trip through L.A.: Windows XP Home Ed.,  ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe w/ WiFi-AP, +4200 AMD Athlon 64 X2,  2 GB total OCZ DDR2 (2*512mb) Speed 800.  I've been reading the threads since I got back and it sounds like I have a challenge ahead! Any recommendations?  Would I be best off to buy a top of the line ASUS graphics card?  They claim higher performance than identical GE or NVidia cards.  What  about ATI? Would a 650 W power supply be adequate?  I'm asking opinions only and not holding anyone to anything! I don't mind being a guinea pig here if it furthers AH--and that means u, skuzzy,too since I saw  threads relating to all this hubub!  Thank ya"ll again and I look forward to being back in the unfriendly skies!

Video card is a matter of taste and budget.

650W should more than you'll ever need. I'd try to get one of the "better" name brands, though.

   "Taste and budget"- -the former is rather vague to me!lol  Budget is a more tangible quality to me than taste!  My taste is the best AH game I can have with what I bought or am about to buy!  Do you think, or know if ASUS makes all the cards for GEForce and NVidea?  What I've seen on the net is that ASUS claims their cards have more performance than the similar GEForce and NVidea Cards on the market. Any ideas?---9Yds

The chip on the card determines the card. GeForces have NVidia chips, for example. x800s have ATI chips. Now a GeForce 6800GT is a GeForce 6800GT, regardless of which company makes it. ASUS can make one, PNY can make one, and Rosewil can make one. Unless one of them deviates from the standard setup, they're pretty much going to all perform the same way.

I'd not try to find an ASUS video card. I'd just look for the card I want from any of the well known manufacturers.

So for what I bought(semi-blindly) can I assume anything over a 7800GT be wasting money?  Is there any conflict with graphics cards that have DD3?

It's not really the memory or anything, it's a matter of making sure the card fits your motherboard (that is, if your motherboard has an AGP slot, then your video card fits into one, same thing for PCIe slots. You don't want an AGP slot and a PCIe card or vice versa).

EDIT: The top of the line Nvidia right now is the Ge 7950, but that's the PCIe card that's 2-in-1.

OCZ ram won't work with Asus board. Just built new system and origanally got OCZ, had to RMA. Either that or I happened to get 4 bad sticks. NOt very likely. So I went with kingston, its on their compatibility chart, works great.

Thanks for the heads up, (and reply:), BMnot. Guess I'll have to try and exchange it by mail through Fry's Electronics.  And here I thought the salesman was pretty sharp!lol--NOT!

Remember, when all's been installed. Install the amd patch for x2 processors. See the sticky of this forum
