Title: Uh-oh...
Post by: Hawklore on August 29, 2006, 11:11:13 AM
Ok, I was driving my Mazda B4k '98 model.

And took my dog to the park, well I went to place it in park, and the arrow that shows you what gear box your in, pushed through and came back towards the N part.

So when I'm in park it shows to the right of P.

I'm in D and it shows I'm in 2.

I'm in N and it shows I'm in D

The display is.
[P N D 2 1]

So I go to park and it does this.

[P|N D 2 1]

I get in drive and.

[P N D |2 1]

So, is there an easy fix, or is it the mechanics shop for me?

I gotta go back to carmax anyways, they gotta replace the fan on my radiatior it's stopped making that humm noise but starts to make occasional rattling noises.

I always looked at little issues like this as a great excuse for not letting your friends borrow your car.

These are also great ways to keep your wife from driving it as well.

My car has been like that for years.  It's never really been an issue.

Nope, this is standard quality expectations for Ford products.

Wait, why am I putting a 13B in my plane again?

Regarding Carmax, I purchased two cars there and had great experiences with both.  Great quality cars, good prices, and solid service backups, I recommend them.

Yea, so far no problems.

I'll find out when I take this one in though, seeing as one of the problems was pre-existing.

13B's are good till you blow an apex seal & or you rev them past 15K or so.

To extend my apex seal life, I'll disable the oil hack and use something else.  For the rest of y'all, the wankel rotary engines don't have a non-combustion stroke that can be used to lubricate the apex seal, sort of the equivalent of a piston ring in an OTTO IC.  To get around this, Mazda engineers scavenge a little bit of crankcase oil and inject it with the fuel so that it lubricates the way a 2-stroke engine does.

Any grit in the crankcase oil acts like sandpaper and abrades the seal.

What I'll do is disable the scavenger and either mix 2-stroke or put in a 2-stroke oil injector so that the seals are fully lubricated.  Should extend apex life and improve reliability.

Ok, Golfer should be here with some snark about automotive conversions on planes in 5... 4... 3... 2.....

Gear indicators are nothing more than just a wire tied to the gear shifting crank from which you move it.

My Dakota's wire isn't connected, so I'm always in P when I'm driving :D

If it's like Sigma said then it shouldn't be too much of a hassle because the shop will probably charge you $25 or whatever the going rate for a check out is, or they might do it for free if you are a constant customer.  It's nothing serious and it won't affect drivability.
