I once had a book made up of several chapters, each one about
different Allied pilots. One of these was a 38 pilot named Big John and
told of him meeting Galland at a convetion here in the states.
Does anyone know of this book? Would like to get my hands on it again.
tks, RR

You mean 'Big John' Lowell, he has told more then a few 'fish stories', see the last thread on this here:
Luftwaffe accounts of "The Forked Tailed Devil (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=181800&highlight=Lowell)

This book is a collection of stories, Brauno. I remembered Lowells particular chapter because of the larger than life taste to it. Either way it jumped right in my head to help this guy out :)
There are some very interesting parts to it however. Talking about being shot down in the pacific, riding on a submarine for a rescue and other stories. With Joe Foss as the co-author how can you really go wrong?
One bit I do remember is a pilot learned his value while being in transit after being discovered by natives. He was traded for a sack of rice, and lived his life as though that's all he was worth. It really puts things in perspective when you know your value; especially if it's one sack of rice.

Sack of rice means a lot to some folks.

Sorry I didn't mean to deride the book, I own it and enjoyed it.
