Title: Auto Ground View
Post by: Krusty on August 30, 2006, 02:59:41 PM
When on the ground you can hit F3, but the second your gear comes up you lose it. The F3 is nice for taxiing and manuvering while on the ground. However, if you're busy it can be hard to hit F3, F8, and then hold the keypad down properly to give you a down/forward view to see where you're going.

How about an optional checkbox to enable a 45-degree down/forward F3 view automatically when your gear is down? Spawn on takeoff and it snaps to this view until you lift off then reverts to F1.

Touch down on landing and it snaps to this view until you reup or exit the plane.

I dunno, what do you think? I was wishing for this the other night when I was dead-stick landing at a V-base. I had to manually hit F3 and F8 to see where the cement was (all in a hury no less -- had to do it before I stopped rolling). I made a safe landing but just barely.

Thoughts? Comments?

Errrr...

to be honest i do not see a neccessity for that.

BTW, whats it with that "hitting F8"? All that does is switch you to pan mode. You can simply hit F3 and then numpad 0 and 8 (together!) to look forward down.

Krusty, try using the SHIFT M mouse pan view for takeoff. then as soon as your wheels are up all you have to do is press SHIFT M again to get back to normal. (maybe that even happens automatically when you get back to internal.

Schatzi, F8 is pan mode, so that once you have the view in place you can take your hands off the view keys and use them for important stuff (like brakes!)
