Hi Guys,
I keep getting a "request timed out" error when I try to reach my SMTP mail gateway. I'm currently trying to figure out whether I should be calling my ISP or the domain host to try to resolve the problem.
Can anyone Ping or Tracert 208.234.19.1?
(smtp.providencepca.com)
Thanks,
SEAGOON

Negatory with either of them. Both time out after 65.124.11.154 from here in the Mother Country ;)

Seagoon I would suggest you call your ISP and inform them of this problem.
Since I just moved in the spring of this year, I have had severe problems with the same thing including packet loss. My provider did testing over a period of time and eventually gave me back 4 full months of charges because of my complaints and the results they got when they tested my connection.
They are currently preparing to bring in another server to break the congestion that is a known problem in this area.

Thanks Guys.
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who can't reach my SMTP gateway.

Seagoon, try in the command line:
telnet 208.234.19.1 25
If it answers (anything), it should be ok.
If the connection fails, there is a problem.
I can't do it from here because my ISP blocks access to SMTPs from other ISPs to avoid relaying.
It is possible that the server is configured to drop ping and tracert (to avoid crude DoS attacks) and a ping failure isn't totally relevant.
