Are you asking for ranger's winter map? Cause if you are, you shouldnt ask for it in here, ask for it in the "Free Multiplayer" or the "Terrain Editor" forums.

http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AHRHINE2.EXE (http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AHRHINE2.EXE), Rhine2 map (6.75MB download). It's in use sometimes, in the Special Events Arena or the Axis vs Allies arena.

There's no winter map in the MA for 3 reasons.

1) Few if any winter skins

2) It would most likely require custom objects which aren't allowed.

3) Just to change textures on everything would be a huge job and the map would be a minimum of 3 or 4 meg to download.

I wish we had a winter map, I know it might not be practical, but if you are going to wish, wish big.

1) But I and many others are DYING to use the few winter skins we have. Maybe once a year at christmas?

2) Um, what custom objects?!?

3) How much would the textures have to change? Also, pre-cache?

1) They would have to be historically accurate and submitted to HT to be included in the game.

2) At the very least, trees without leafs and/or snow on them.

3) To do it properly every building, every ground and clutter object texture would need to be adapted to have some amount of snow cover. And since custom textures are contained in the .res file itself the download would be huge.

You don't need new objects, just re-texture the current trees. I have some leafless tree textures hidden somewhere on my computer collecting dust.

The Rhine map which was in the AvA not so long ago  is beautiful.

The terrain just looks so cool with all the snow and the airfields reminded me a little of il2 stormovik.

Cant see why a MA map cant be made if this one can be operational in AvA.

If its in the MA, why the **** does it have to be realistic? Those maps arent!

Nobody said the map had to be realistic. The skins are required to be historically accurate.

Just recently, I was the one who told a few people how to do that for a winter map. I was simply using it as an example of what might be needed. Custom objects are iffy at best. But the map size will be huge if everything is re-textured.

If you're talking about Rhine2, it's over 6meg in size. I don't think that acceptable for a MA map.

Hey, I know every single one of us would be willing to wait on a 6 meg. download, just to have a game in the snow!

You don't understand what a hassle it is to try to make terrains. The guy (USRanger) who made that terrain I linked took at least 1 month to make it. To make an MA map or even SEA map using snow tiles would take at least 3 months to check, re-check, and confirm the terrain works.

hassle schmassle.

i am suprized by the consistancy of your ney-saying bogie.   i would be interested to read your wishes...i hope that you have some of your own...i hope also that you might see some of them come true.

if it's manpower that's the problem...well...there's some hella-fine talent in this outfit and i'm pretty darn sure that a green light would be all that it would take to get that fish swimmin faster than a GI to a british skirt.

it seems to me that the immersion factor has played itself heavilly into flight characteristics...which are GREAT!  but who would'nt love to see that genius balanced with an immersion value worthy of it's true simulation power.

a winter map please.

JB88, my only wish is that the "AFK" option does something. Hitech himself said, "Good Idea Bogie" when I suggested it do something more than just change your name to red. And here's a winter map:

I'll have the winter map that Bogie is talking about(see pics thru his link) on Friday on my new website.  It's a small 64 x 64map, but you can see what I have.  I'm currently working on a much larger winter map using a variety of new snow textures.  Til then, plz enjoy the smaller one, downloadable in the Terrain Editor forum on Friday

You heard earlier that unless HTC allows it, MA maps will NEVER have snow tiles. Right now they do not allow custom objects, which means no custom tiles. That means no snow in the MA unless HTC changes some things. I don't blame them for it, because if there's a sudden code change some of these MA maps would become "obsolete".

It took me over a month and a half to make my snow terrain w/ all textures

And it would not be used for ma so i deleted it lol.:furious

When I modified the textures for Rhine2, it only took a few hours total, so it's not a terribly difficult thing to do. It is not a matter of creating new tiles... just replacing the textures of existing tiles. The >6 meg download size is not something HTC wants to get into... either is swapping out the cache file every time you switch arenas.

Thanks for the feedback on Rhine2, though. :)

a winter map, like all of the others would best be bundled first with the initial download...if not, it would be available in advance from the website.

with the initial size of the game as a comparison, 6 megs is hardly something to be concerned about is it?

How big IS the game anyway? Mine varies daily between 700GB and 700KB.

Hard to believe you'll get AHII to fit on 700kB. Or to take 700GB. My AHII-folder takes a bit over 1.5GB but that's with hi-res textures, films, screenshots etc.

From the downloads page:

Current Version : 2.08 Patch 3
Last Updated : June 19, 2006
Size : 76.06MB
Download Aces High II (http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AH2083.EXE)

That's just the game without skins, hi-res textures and terrains. Adding a winter map to that might not increase the size too much, but I still doubt it would be done. Oh well, maybe with these new arenas we'll see different maps.
