The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is to remake classic British war film The Dam Busters, he has told film industry trade paper Screen Daily. Jackson will produce the movie, with King Kong animator Christian Rivers in the director's chair. And here's a link to BBC news (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5301998.stm).

With any luck at all, it'll be better than King Kong. That movie was disappointing and completely forgettable.
-
"He came back and said that [film company] Icon had the rights and that Mel Gibson was going to direct and possibly act in it," Jackson said.
Luckily this never happened. I have a bit more confidence in Jackson than Gibson.

Great - its about time the Brits had a new theme tune to sing at sporting events versus Germany ;)
Sorry - bad taste.
-
Do they rename the dog?
-
If Mel Gibson did it he'd retell the story from the German side, and cast the British as evil, bomb bouncing villains bent on world domination through dam destruction.
And Alan Rickman would play Guy Gibson.

Little doubt. ;)

You guys know Jackson is it warbirds nut right? He has his own WW1 fighter collection (Fokker Triplanes, Nieuport, and a Camel)
-
thank God he aint doing a BoB movie
-
I would not mind seeing BoB movie redone... More flying shots, tracers and stuff
-
yeah bet the dog gets renamed,
Ni...Ni....Nig...... Nigel.. or something :-)

They probably won't refer to the dog by name. He wasn't exactly a leading character in the raid anyway. However the code word for breaching the Mohne was: that word.
It will probably be CGI heavy given that there are only two flying Lancs left. No harm really given that the raid was at night. Jackson is a warbird buff so you can expect a degree of authenticity.
What will be interesting will be how they handle Guy Gibson, who was according to recent research, a complex character and not that popular with many of his men. Being a bit of a martinet.
Incidentally his dog was unpopular too and there is a suggestion that his 'accident' wasn't:eek:

New conspiricy theories! Brilliant. Lets get David Jason onto it with Frost. Sorry if any body outside of uk dousnt know what I mean by this

Bomber crew's secret mission for Jackson
Saturday September 2, 2006
Three months ago New Zealand Lancaster bomber veteran Vic Viggers became involved in a top-secret mission.
It was a mission as secret as the famous World War II dambusters raid by British bombers which Peter Jackson has in his sights as his next big-screen venture.
While the 44-year-old producer and director only announced his movie venture yesterday, Mr Viggers and six other former Lancaster bomber crewman were in on the secret back in May - but didn't realise it.
"He [Peter Jackson] didn't tell us what he was up to. He said he was gathering information for his archives," said Mr Viggers.
"I knew he was an aviation buff."
Mr Jackson had flown Mr Viggers, 86, and two other Lancaster veterans from the North Island and four from the south, to Auckland to meet him at the Motat transport museum where a restored, but not airworthy, Lancaster is on display.
He picked the men through their individual roles aboard the bombers. Mr Viggers had been a wireless operator aboard a Lancaster with 101 Squadron, and took part in 19 sorties during the Battle of Berlin.
He said he had been aware of the Dambusters Squadron back in 1943.
"They weren't far from where we were stationed. We knew something special was going on but didn't know what. It was kept really secret."
It was a mission as secret as Peter Jackson's "gathering information" ploy this year.
"He was a delightful guy. He didn't film us but did audio interviews. I was actually surprised to see him there. I thought he'd have got one of his minions to do it."
Mr Viggers said he got the veterans to take up their old positions in the Lancaster and quizzed them on their roles. "He'd clearly done his homework."

I know what you mean, but imo Morse was better than Frost. Sutch a shame that John Thaw passed away.

Surely 'Bulldog' Drummond would the very man for the job?:aok
-
IF he does as well with Dambusters as he did with LOTR and King Kong, it should be a great movie!
Paul Brickhill also wrote "Reach For The Sky"

weren`t dams civilian infrastructure and bombing them a war-crime?
(puts down the pole....)
it should be a great film.
btw how do any germans feel about these WWII movies? imo the ultimate villain or enemy in any movie (wich nobody`s gonna whine about like: "blackhawk down was racist") are nazis and bugs. but it has to bring up different feelings in germans, even if most of them aren`t nazis anymore.
