... well, nothing against the flying tigers, but I prefer the US insignia, and have therefore searched endlessly for a P-40E that is Olive Drab, with the Shark's Mouth, but NO FLYING TIGERS emblem! And, I have finally found it, but alas, no matter how I try, I cant even get my skins to stop showing the default skin! So, if post pictures, can someone please do it for me? It was the 23 Fighter Group, flown by Col. Robert L Scott. Due to copywrite laws, the website wont let me put images here, so here is the link to the page with all of the pictures of this specific plane:

So, there we go. I will 'Bump' this in the morning just to make sure everyone sees it. Thank you very much in advance, and for those of you who ask "Whats in it for me?!?", My undying gratitude, a permanent thanks in both my squad website and my signature! :D
And for those of you who dont read that all, dont say "Do it yourself" because as I said up there, I have tried and I am incompitent, and I use GIMP.

i thought gimp was good to use?
why not try paint shop pro you can get a 3 onth free trail
-
rogerdee, its not the program, its my own incompitence and utter lack of knowledge.

hey we all got to start somewhere.
my first second third fivethousand and sixyfour atempts were crap, some still are but you learn a little each time u try something, the main thing to remember is to do things in layers and if stuck ask questions on here.
the guys on here always help

All kinds of shark mouthed P40s out there. It actually started with 112 squadron in the desert with thier P40s. Before the LW guys jump in, they were also on 110s and 109Bs I believe.
Any of the 23rd FG P40s would have had them in US markings.. 51st FG in the CBI also had shark mouths.

I want specifically a P-40E, with an Olive Drab skin, and ONLY U.S. Markings. I am still trying to do it myself, but I cannot do it. So if someone else would like to make this one skin for me, I would be very appreciative.

Just to make you feel better Reynolds, I've started, deleted, and started again my P-47D11 skin about 5 times now. I started on it two months ago. I started a F4F that I had almost complete and then trashed. I started 2 different F4U skins that got to an almost complete panel line set from scratch and trashed them too.
I've now got the P-47 on track, but it still takes time. In the meantime, I've learned a whole lot about computer graphics programs. Made some completely useless, but nice-looking U.S. Naval Aviator wings just to try some stuff out. Keep at it and you'll figure it out soon enough. I use GIMP as well, and it has a pretty steep learning curve. But, I'm learning slowly but surely...
-
I just dont have the time to learn all of this stuff, and programming comes difficultly to me, and I hope if I ask real nice someone else will make this skin and it will be out real soon.
-
the p40e is not a good plane to skin its ok but the hardest thing will be getting the shark mouth right.
ill have a few beers and see what looks ok

sheiBe! That is BEUTIFUL!!!! HOLY CRAAP!!!!! Yes, that is PERFECT! I dont think it needs any more work, that looks great. Is there any way you can get that into the next skin update? Hey, for anyone who uses GIMP, once I have the basic file of the aircraft on my computer, what do I do next?
-
Do all the setup tasks that United talks about in his tutorial at http://www.ahskinning.netfirms.com.
This website is what got me going, along with the GIMP tutorials online. Do the ones on layers, selections, drawing paths, etc. Those are the ones most pertinent to skinning...
-
Nice error message. ;)
-
Hmmm...
I've got that link saved in my favorites and it works. But, the link I posted doesn't work.
Maybe Google? Try this http://www.ahskinning.netfirms.com./
[Edit] that didn't work either...Maybe the site is down and its just saved in my computer...

Actually one of the flying tigers said (I won't directly quote, I can't remember every word, but these are his basic words) "I saw a magazine showing a bf110 on the cover, with a wicked red shark's mouth on it, and thought that's the kind of thing we need! So we went around and hand-chalked the mouths onto the planes, and then had them painted in. Each one was done by hand, so each one was unique"
The LW was using it before the AVG did.
EDIT: Also the pre-war 109s had 'em, as shown
