WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military shot down a dummy warhead over the Pacific on Friday in what it described as a "huge step" in development of an anti-missile shield activated in July to guard against missiles test-fired by North Korea.
A target missile launched from Kodiak, Alaska was hit by an interceptor launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in central California, the first intercept of a mock warhead since October 2002. Interceptor rockets failed to leave their silos during test attempts in December 2004 and February 2005.
"This was about as close as we can come to an end-to-end test of our long-range missile defense system," Air Force Lt. Gen. Henry Obering, head of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, told a Pentagon briefing.
"Basically, what we did today is a huge step in terms of our systematic approach to continuing to field, continuing to deploy and continuing to develop a missile defense system for the United States, for our allies, our friends, our deployed forces around the world," he said.
Glad to finally hear some good news from this system. Now, if they can just make it reliable.

hurray!!!

Hopeing they finally get it down
As this doesnt mean anything till they can make it routine

wtg!
Now make it reliable and get a system fitted on the AEGIS ships and you have a mobile system that can be put off the shores of other rouge nations.

North Korea has been establishing drug smuggling routes to the USA for years. They are not going to launch a missile to attack us with nukes. They are going to smuggle it in and plant it or them. The missile tests is a diversion, IMO.

I was talking to a friend of mine who's an engineer for the airforce. He told me that there's a system concept floating around that will be able to pre-emptively destroy hundreds of ICBMs well before the end of the boost phase--ie, before they get over international waters, or foriegn soil. He says that this weapon system is relatively simple, and will all but gaurantee a total or near-total incapacitation of enemy launch vehicles, and best of all, will work before existing satellite systems even detect launches. It also boasts something the current systems in developement lack--a psychological effect
I did some research and found a link (http://mcb10koreaseabees.com/images/Castle_Bravo_2-29-1954.jpg).

What they forget to say is that there were 5 other rockets launched.
