LoL, yes it would :)
Welcome to Aces High bandit!
A Joystick is system requirement for a reason. AH has a very accurate flight model, and controlling the plane with mouse is a lot more difficult then with Joystick. You dont need nothing fancy for starters. A cheap stick with hatswitch, Throttle lever, twisty rudder and a few buttons will get you a long way. You can get those for 20-30 USD - like for example a Saitek Evo. Do a search for "Joystick" in these forums... youll run across a lot of suggestions for all budgets :). Just one word of caution: Stay away from Logitech sticks... they are crap.
That doesnt mean you cant try mouse for now. On http://www.slowcat.de is an article on how to set it up for flying.
Then id recommend you check out http://www.netaces.org and the Help file on this page (if you havent already done so). On Netaces youll find a Quick Reference guide, thats a one page printout for default keymap... very handy to have that on your desk while flying :).
When flying, always remember this is WW2, not modern Jets. Youll have to give them time to build up speed before maneuvering. After takeoff, keep your nose level and gain some speed (for starters, its good to keep speed above 150 mph, for maneuvering, you need more). ALT X will set you for Autopilot Climb to gain some altitude. Keep all maneivers smooth and gentle, no jerky input. Listen to the stall sound (that annoying buzz) - it warns you before the airflow breaks and you loose control. If you hear that machine gun buffet sound, you pushed too hard... nose low and fly straight to regain speed.
Ill be in the Training Room later tomight. Holler if you need help.
