Post by: ViZeen on September 03, 2006, 09:01:23 PM: How does a HD increase frame rates? Isnt what is needed from the game soft ware "loaded" into memory and the cpu and gpu go to work on it? I thought after the game was loaded the HD was pretty much done with its work except for any updates that come along.

Post by: OOZ662 on September 04, 2006, 12:28:38 AM: If you don't have enough RAM and your computer is using the virtaul memory stored on a hard drive, then yes, faster hard drives will help. However, more RAM is exceptionally cheaper.

Having programs running off the hard drive in the background would make the computer perform better with faster hard drives, as well.

all of thier equipment is brand new and not refurbished and i get it for what they want.

the cache speed is what really matters, the bigger the MB of cache the faster it goes.

Post by: GunnerCAF on September 04, 2006, 05:07:22 PM: I have never associated video game frame rates with hard drive speed. Even fast hard drives are slow compared to RAM. I am no expert, but I think you will find other bottlenecks on your PC if your HD increases your frame rate in video games.

Post by: 38ruk on September 04, 2006, 11:32:57 PM: If a hard drive increased your frame rate i would dare to say that you should have spent your money on system ram, the only way that a HD should do that is if your so short on memory that your games are running from the page file , and even with a 10k raptor its still quite slower than ram.

I'm no expert , but i wouldn't want people to buy an expensive HD expecting to see all their frame rate issues disappear.

Post by: Sweet2th on September 05, 2006, 02:34:42 AM: I was just sharing this fine product with the rest of you.I use Kingston 3200 400Mhz RAM,having 2 Gig sticks of that RAM helps a lot.If you have the ram and the video card combined with the Raptor X HD it really rocks.

In AH today the HD is constantly being hit with texture and skin loads because there are far far too many to load and stay resident, even at lower resolutions. If you have game stutters and 1 Gig of ram with an ATA 100 HD, the best thing you can do is upgrade to a faster HD.
