Title: Tigers
Post by: Reynolds on September 05, 2006, 05:38:45 AM
Okay, I have just saved up enough GV points for a tiger (I dont use GVs much, so it took a while) I have only ever used one before, and I made the mistake of taking it to tank town. Killed two panzers, then got owned. So now before I waste another of my favorite kitties, what is a SAFE situation to use a tiger in? I want to be able to kill stuff, I just also want a situation where a mediocre-at-best GV driver can land a very expensive deathtrap.

Reynolds,
Tigers are best used in base defense, if your worried about it getting shot out from under ya. Use panzers for offensive. Also another good tactic for Tigers is spawn camping.

lol. Ill admit I DO spawn camp, but I camp in front of the spawn (normally hiding in bushes or a town) and only in tank town. (But thats probably because TT is the only place I can FIND the spawn from the ground.)

Air cover is a must, I love to take a 110 out to hunt tigers from the air.  If you want to keep the tiger and be albe to land it, you must have air cover to keep someone from droping a 1000 pounds of ord on you.

Or just a bit of SA. You can easily dodge most bomb runs in a Tiger as long your tracks & engine are ok.  Only few people in MA are actually capable of hitting a moving & dodging tiger. I do the bomb walz a lot when defending bases, and in at least 9 of 10 cases I survive the attacks

I find bombs to not work from the air! When I bomb a tiger, hit right near him (Half the crater is on his position) with a 500lber nothing happens! In real life, isnt 500lbs of ords enough to kill one tank?!?

I have braketed Tigers with two 1,000 pound bombs and did not stop it.  It seems that you have to hit it in order to kill it.  With that said, I am sucessful about 75% of the time bombing Tigers, and about 90% on other GV's.

For panzers, a 500 pounder is usually enough to kill it, if dropped with reasonably good accuracy, but it seems a Tiger needs something more on the order of 1000 pounds or 500 kgs. I know the 500 kg bomb will kill a Tiger even if you don't get a direct hit. A salvo of 50 kg bombs dropped right over the top of a tank or vehicle will kill it dead, with the exception of a Tiger.

I find it quite fun to take out someones Tiger valued at some 50 vehicle perks with a single bomb. The Ju-88 carries 4 500 kg bombs and a bunch of little 50 kg ones, and I've found it is quite good for blasting tanks.

I have killed more PT boats in the last day with a P-40E's 500lber than I have the whole time I have been playing killed other GVs with a 110.
