...and how is it different from a horde?
-
It's one man's attempt at using a filthy term to describe a horde. A horde is bad enough, but we don't need that kind of term being thrown around.
-
Agreed.

concur :aok

I see. For a minute there I thought somebody was Hooked on Phonics.
Another question. What is the reason for the negative attitude towards the horde here on the bbs? At what point does a group become a horde? Is there a cut off line? Once past it you are now officially in a "horde".
-
i would disagree, as in the other thread, that it is a dirty word, let alone a filthy word. it is certainly not a curse word:) It at worst is a term to possible degrade a woman....then again..(ah won't even go there). however at it's best it is a great descriptive word with alot of power-so much so that you might get a whole thread devoted to it. example, it would be perfectly within the realm of the definition to say this...."i hate the corporate potatos of america." (meaning you are really angry that corporations in america will do anything to make a buck).
so to answear the original question, i guess a whorde would be a large group of players who will sacrifice gameplay and competition for the sole sake of hording. on second thought, guess it is a pretty disgusting word. Or, for you pervs out there, a large group of sheep.... hmm on second thought, n/m.
*if you read carefully maybe 2 questions answered at once.

In my OPINION Pluck
as these boards and the game itself doesn't have an age limit to join it is an unnecessary term when 'Hoarde' itself was a sufficient nomenclature. Amusing? absolutely. Unnecessary... based on the general populace that is allowed to view these boards. Yes.
Now I am FAR from a prude. I can turn the air blue in a moment of rage or frustration and expletives do not offend me. In fact I'm probably the hardest person on the planet to offend on an internet message board. However I also believe that some restraint given the potential audience should be excercised.
Again... just my opinion.. you don't have to agree with me.

i hear ya, respect your opinion, and i'm not gonna attack you, i'm just not gonna agree that all:) Kids learn "bad" words as soon as they go to school, from my experience; so i'm not sure how shocked or awed they would be to see something like that written. thats when parenting comes in and you explain to them why they shouldn't use it. i think if that's the angle your going to take, is then your not recognizing that kids know a lot more than what parents teach them. Also, if your child is young enough that you worry about them seeing certain things on the internet.....well it might not be the best place for them. (not trying to tell anyone how to parent etc, just adding my view)
at any rate its not for us to say if potatod is too much, that is mars' call depending on how he feels. which is why free speech is great. you could also say it on TV. see its okay, he heard it on the television:)

Not against nor for your opinion...
But you can read the same word in the dictionary which will exist in every classroom your kids visit after Kindergarten.
intr.v. potatod, whor·ing, potatos
To associate or have sexual relations with prostitutes or a prostitute.
To accept payment in exchange for sexual relations.
To compromise one's principles for personal gain.
Doesn't mention anything about a group of self-indulging world war II pilots paying a monthly fee to fly make believe late war fighters with 30+ of their online "friends" in an attempt to rope, vulch, pick, cherry, kill steal, "gang" or "gang bang" every red dot they find flying alone in their path. But I think you get what I'm saying here. :D

How does one differentiate between typing "FSCK" or one of many colorful and incorrectly spelled expletives in game, and Mars typing "whorde" in the forums?
Krusty, meet kettle. Kettle, meet Krusty.

A horde or whorde, as it has been called, is some peoples attempt to force a style of game play suitable to their needs. In a nut shell, it is a term used by the childish to describe what they see as **sniff, sniff** unfair.
It is those peoples attempt to indicate that the game should be played as a 1-on-1 encounter in every situation. And, further that missions and group play should be outlawed! By God, why should people come to an ONLINE COMMUNITY and expect to play with others?:furious
And for those who pi$$ and moan about the horde or missions or group play don't forget that the game is specifically designed for what you ask. It is called the Dueling Arena. Try it. You might enjoy it.
I will admit that I don't like being the victim of a "dog pile on the wabbit," but that doesn't make the game unfair or less fun. The game is what it is. Enjoy it for the fun and relaxation of RECREATION. Anyone who lets the game get their bloodpressure up that high should be out on the golf course instead.

I'll start from the bottom.
Lawman you are obviousely a potatod monkey. So I don't expect you to get any of this. You probably love fighting your own team mates for kills rather than the enemy. You probably piss your pants when you get into a 1 Vs 1 and scream on VOX for help and you probably only fly above 15k until you meet someone up there blow the merge and dive for the deck and safety of the potatoD. I'm sure you jump on any mission to take undefended bases and think your good at it. LOLH :aok
None of my post ask anything other than for people to fight rather than run from fights. It's guys like you that realize you are in the "Guys that Run From Fights" camp and get all pissy, twist my posts into the drivil you posted in here and in the other thread.
Like I said, I am sure this is going over your head, as your brain tries to justify to yourself your potato gameplay style.
-
lawman... are you serious when you say that bieng ganged by 10 or 20 talentless whorders all taking the HO shot at you in lalas does not make the game less fun for you?
I think you need to read what you write before you get all up into your preach mode... I assume that you probly don't know how fun this game could be... that you simply think that it was never any better and never can be again.
If being potatoded doesn't bother you.....
What are your thoughts on being in the whorde? Attacking those undefended buildings and maybe..... just maybe... someone will try to up and you will be the one of twenty in position to swooooooop down on the runway like an avenging angel and..... Get the kill! what joy that must be.... I can see how one or two of those every hour or so would make it all worth it.
Maybe you will win a joust... learn how to keep your eyes open on the HO and shoot before the other guy?
Compared to all that.... what fun could a whirling swirling mele full of guys who all know what they are doing be?
yep... maybe we should all just be happy with what we have. the squeaky boy/girl voiced potatod.

Nice language Mars. You obviously don't know me at all, so don't assume that you do. If the game bothers you that much, take up fishing.

For the rest of you.
This is an adult game. If you think differently then please tell me how many children are out there with their own credit cards already??
Now that I established it's an adult game, if you let your children do adult things before they are ready, you better prepare them for the adult world. So save me the, wahhh my kids gonna read the word potatoD and then I am going to have to explain what a potato is. Ohh the ruin. If your kids are boring enough to be reading these boards, give the phucker a baseball, basketball or football, tell then to go make some friends and kick him out of the house till the sun goes down so he grows up normal and turns into a loser adult reading and posting on Intardnet BBS and flying computer airplanes arguing about why he/she would rather run frmo fights then engage in them. LOLHROTFFPAOMS. :rofl :rofl
As for the rest of you adults, anyone that finds the word potatoD offensive should get over themselves. Are you writing ABC, CBS, NBC, Comedy Central and all the other TV stations?? Their words and visuals are much more vulgar than any of my threads, yet I am sure you beam in all that you can into your living room.
Most of you find the term offensive because it directly explains you and the fact that you guys hide behind some drivel and censorship make the word even more apropos! :aok
God the level of babies that play this game cracks me up! :rofl
Don't say potatod it offends me. You all offend me LOLH :rofl
-
Nice language Mars.
Thank You :aok I have to assume that's a compliment, unless you are seriously now upset by the words potato and PISS LOLH :rofl
Game dosen't bother me Lawboy, people like yourself that play like radishcats do. :aok
As long as there are a few with a pair of balls that will actually fight in this game I will be here. Get used to it. :aok

I know loads of kids these days who all have their own credit card. Havent you listened to Vox? How many squeaky voiced kids are there? Especially in the TA.
As for your next point, if reading these boards is so boring, Why read them? Nobody's forcing you!
As for the point of this actual thread, I deeply concure with Krusty's point at the top, and there is no differance between a Horde and a potatod.
-

Yeah because Credit Card companies are giving cards to kids with no credit lines, jobs or the like LOLH. And if you are suggesting children are being given credit cards cosigned by their parents, then I would be safe in saying that the word potato is very low on their radar and most likely these kids are well over the age of 16 and past giving or getting blow jobs in the back of the bus on way to school and definitely know the word potato. LOLH :rofl :aok Nice try tho. If you are basing the fact that kids have credit cards because you hear squeaky voices on line you are even more confused.
Read my post this time slowly: if you let your children do adult things before they are ready, you better prepare them for the adult world.
As for your next point, if reading these boards is so boring, Why read them? Nobody's forcing you!
I knew some maroon would jump on this one LOLH. It's too easy. Read it in context genius then try again.

There is to you, obviously or you would just let it go. :aok
Again reread original post more slowly -

Mars, the more you protest in favor of your own little coined term here, the more it seems you are hiding behind some drivel (not them, certainly not me) because you're angry and trying to lash out.
There are other ways. Ways that don't harm others. And yes, the environment around people can harm them. Hang out with folks that don't care what they say and soon you don't. Then when you remember WHY you cared about what came out of your own mouth, you remember why you should feel sorry. Your lack of civil restraint is not a good thing.
-
Krusty I am not angry, nice try tho.
Please do tell what I am hiding behind. :rofl
What have I harmed, other then your fragile little ego, it seems. The fact that you even feel harmed just cracks me up. :rofl AY.
Get off your soap box and take your soft core censorship elsewhere. Next you'll be telling me you and Al Gores wife started the censorship crap back in the 90s LOLH.
-
What are you, Mars? All of 12 years old? What happened to a game "for adults"? Certainly doesn't seem that way. If you can't act like one, then you're simply a petulent kid spouting off cuss words, thinking he's cool.
Your anger is at "the horde" the group you feel is ruining your fun. You made that abundantly clear. If you say you're not angry, then, well,
All I can say is "shut the heck up" because you're going on and on, using inappropriate terms to describe something you severely dislike -- and if you don't dislike it stop acting like ya do!
-
You couldnt be more wrong krust.
Do I like the potatoDs, No. Am I angry at a game LOLH as if, NO.
Will I shut up, probably not. As long as this is a free country and there are people taking undefened bases there will be people talking about how lame that is. End of story.
You want to censor those that don't agree with you, move to the middle east. Till then you have the right to spout on and I have the right to reply. :aok
Freedom aint that a biotch.
-
Oi.... I think mars has proven my point for me. He's simply a punk spouting because he thinks it's cool. Where's storch's thread about the tough guys? Or was that Furball's thread?
-
I think mars has proven my point for me. He's simply a punk spouting because he thinks it's cool.
Hmmm, it's not OK for me to call potatod monkies just that, but you are any better by calling me a punk?? Practice what you preach tough guy. I love a good hippocrate.
Yeah I am so cool posting to the likes of you. Look at me I'm so cool LOLH. :rofl
Are you for real dude????
-
I think a filter that would change the word in question to "I'm a potty mouth dorkus" would work pretty good. Not to mention make for funny reading.
-
JEEEZ:rolleyes:
-
for the record
Main Entry: horde
Pronunciation: 'hord
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, German, & Polish; Middle French & German, from Polish horda, from Ukrainian dialect gorda, alteration of Ukrainian orda, from Old Russian, from Turkic orda, ordu khan's residence
1 a : a political subdivision of central Asian nomads b : a people or tribe of nomadic life
2 : a teeming crowd or throng : SWARM
synonym see CROWD
:aok

Another question. What is the reason for the negative attitude towards the horde here on the bbs? At what point does a group become a horde? Is there a cut off line? Once past it you are now officially in a "horde".
Hordes are great when they are opposing each other and fighting each other.
potatods are large hordes that go after undefended bases and don't fight, but rather hide behind the myth of tactics.
potatods are only after their name in lights or the capture of a base and don't care what their impact is on game play and the MA or the community.

archaic, meaning no longer used, used once many hundreds of years ago, perhaps.
A punk is a young misfit.
EDIT: I'm curious if that definition is legit or not. Where did you come upon it?
-
OK the word potatod, used as a noun never existed so I guess since archaic doesn't count neither do made up words. :aok
There goes slap making up his own definitions again LOL

Ok ... then you just called him ... a young male partner of a homosexual.
Ya still slipped up dude ... just goes to prove that no one is beyond reproach ... especially on this BBS.
You can now crawl down from your throne ... or high horse.

Mars, give up. That has nothing to do with anything. You're a wannabe misfit, a wannabe rebel. You're trying to mainstream disrespectful and distasteful language as commonplace and "the norm". You are outside the norm in this effort.
Historically when communities found individuals like this they excommunicated them, refusing to support or aid the individual in question. The individual normally died. Take a hint :)
