Hi All,
We recently ordered a bunch of copies of Don Stephen's inspiring book of short biographies form World War 2 entitled War and Grace (http://www.amazon.com/War-Grace-Short-Biographies-World/dp/0852345941/sr=1-2/qid=1157515774/ref=sr_1_2/002-0005256-8276039?ie=UTF8&s=books) for our most recent conference. This is a book that I enjoyed immensely, and as I was reading it, I couldn't help but reflect that many of the members of the AH BB would be interested in it as well. So since we had had six copies left over after the conference, I went ahead and bought four of them to give away here.
Amongst others, the book details the lives of:
Louis Zamperini - B-24 Bombardier and POW
Jacob DeShazer - Doolittle Raider and POW
Mitsuo Fuchida - Chief Pilot in the raid on Pearl Harbor
William Dobie - Governor of Malta during the Malta Blitz
Rupert Lonsdale - Captain of HM Submarine Seal
Henry Gerecke - Chaplain at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials
and several others...
What they all had in common, as the back of the book puts it, was that "during the turbulent events of those momentous years, God was at work in their lives. He brought these thirteen people to trust, know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore to give themselves to the service of others." And no, you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy the book.
Anyway, I'll happily mail them out to the first four people to answer this question correctly:
"Which ship was nicknamed by her crew "HMS Pepper Pot" due to the number of bomb hits she suffered while in Dry Dock?"

HMS Penelope.
Nicknamed "HMS Pepperpot" because of the considerable shrapnel damage she sustained, HMS Penelope is thought to have been the inspiration for C.S. Forester's novel, "The Ship".

If anyone was paying attention, they would have answered the question in a PM. But since no one was... Here we are...

I answered with a private message. When I came back to the thread, the answer was here.

Hi All,
I should have explicitly said "PM me." The mistake was mine.
Ok, Virgil Hilts won a book with the correct answer, so did Airscrew. I have 4 copies total so Nirvana and Lasersailor, you can have copies as well.
All you all have to do is send me a PM with your mailing address on it.
Sorry again for not setting clearer rules.

Sorry Seagoon and all,.. I like these posts about history and trivia and I like looking up things and doing a little research. It also gives me a chance to learn something new once in awhile. Seagoon I have to share some of that blame, maybe all, about 5 minutes after I posted my answer I began to wonder if I should have PMd you the answer, but I was tired and went to bed instead...
its still a good link I think

Hi All,
Just got round to sending out the books, sorry about the insane delay. Only Nirvana and Virgil actually sent me PMs with their addresses though, so I still need them from Airscrew and Laser. Otherwise, I'll have to do another quiz...
