I have to say I have not had that much fun in AH since the AHII beta nights. HT thank you for giving us a place to fight even if it was only for tonight.
FT was incredible, I finally logged off tonight 4 hours later, hip pockets sagging - sa shot and fully spent. That was awesome!
Tonights furball in FT made the furballs back when I joined look like lint balls. The furball was easily 2 or 3 times the size back then.
Planes fighting it out everywhere. There were so many planes in the air that you could almost hide in the crowd. I had some great 1 on 1s right in the middle of the furball because not every enemy was looking at my plane as they are when defending against the horde.
I don't know what the rest of the map was like, but I did look at the dar bars and all fronts had full dar bars too.
BOPS made a good showing too. :aok
Thanks again HT.

i.e. lots of stuff to shoot at that's too busy to put up any kind of real defense.
This map is terrible. The FT in the center is the only part that's done well. It looks like it was made by someone who wanted to furball but had never even taken part in the land-grab game.
-
evry map should have an FT. furballers can furball and everyone else can do what everyone else wants to do. LONG LIVE FT!!
-
When the map is "new" after reset, theres lots of distance between the fields (due to the line of vehicle bases). If one doesnt want to take part in the "who picks fastest" furball of fightertown is hard pressed to find a good fight outside of it.
Had good fun with the Bish mission trying to take 40 last night though. Made for a good fight for a while (untill the Knit "counter mission" prevailed). >>S<<

Case-in-point, you can't even READ the sector numbers.
-
I think that the optimum map has a nice FT area (like do nuts) but with a main arena suitable for the ebb and flow of capture and counter capture.
I seem to be very familiar with the same strip of fields whenever playing do-nut.
-
What FT in donut means to me is, a fight where you can go into, kill someone, die, and reup and instantly be at an advantage over the guy who just killed you.
A GOOD map doesnt need FT. A GOOD map is conducive to furballing no matter where the front line moves to. The problem is all of our maps have chokepoints, places where advances fail simply because you have to fly too far to get into a fight. Reducing the average flying distance from 25-30milees down to 10-15 would improve gameplay for EVERYONE.
Trying to seperate the furballers and the land grabbers is just as bad, if not worse, than when they're forced to use bases which don't fit their objectives. Maps should be designed so that the two can operate at the same time. An endless problem of furballing is that once you finally DO take that base, your enemy now has to fly 30 miles to fight. At the same time the endless problem of land grabbing is getting enough people to fly that 30 miles, or getting people to return that far after dying.
The two can coexist peacefully, but the maps eliminate any possibility of it. FesterMA is the closest approximation, but still has the major border lines, forcing a rigid initial border.

Rather naive views of fighter town. In 4 hours I was only picked 2 or 3 times, twice by Viper LOL. Your SA has to be at it's peak and mine hasn't been tested like that in a while. I have to admit after 4 hours of fighting my SA was shot and brain was fried. Tracking 4 and 5 cons in the midst of 50 cons takes its toll lol but is a blast!
The furball crowd has been left behind so many times by the strat crowd that FT is necessary. But I do agree Innominate that the fields should be closer together. Honestly I thought strat guys like sector or farther bases.
Don't make the mistake of not being able to hack it in fighter town means that no one else is either. All it means is there is something to get better at.
-
FT is a blast only a few bombers taking out dar occassionally, a few cherrypickers murdr, viper etc while I was on. most of the fights were deep in the bowl and there is no better place to help improve with your SA than that furball.
-
Yep... great place to practice and improve sa.
innominate did hit it... he is a land grab guy I take it and... I am a furballer..
we agree on one thing. If the bases are moved to the minimum distance then it is good for both sides and a FT is probly not even needed.
the map maker who made FT said himself that he was not a furballer... I have no idea what kind of gameplay he likes but it isn't one that pleases me or innominate.... it is clunky and convoluted like so many of the recent player made maps... Fester got it.
Yes... FT has guys who cheery pick but so what? there is plenty of good fights down low. The cherry pickers tend to get cherry picked themselves so... they either don't bother you or.. they end up frustrated and down in the mess too. Still WAY more fun than the rgular whorde and cherry picker/runnway divers in the rest of the ma..
I had a blast... some of the people I "debate" with here had a blast in there too.

Sadly I was only able to be on for 45 minutes but outside of squad nights that was the most fun I've had since I signed up. Wish I'd run up against you Mars or Laz just to see if I could get lucky but for a noob like me the pure adreneline rush was :O .
:aok

LoL, Mars, you misunderstand my problem.... its less that *I* get picked... my *kills* get picked ;).

Heheehh ohh srry about that. As you know I am a BK so no matter what if there are other BKs around my kills get cherry picked, especially when slap and stang are on LOL so that is the norm for me no matter where I am :D
but for a noob like me the pure adreneline rush was .
For a Noob/Vet like me, it was also a pure adreneline rush as well. First time in a long time, that I can't wait to play again. :aok

I'll be looking for you ;)
mostly out the back of my ride I'm sure :rofl

I like varying things in AH, so I like the idea of FT. I'm not 100% for isolating it totally. A big island in the middle on one map suffices, has the same effect but more fields (to retake a field from once one is lost).
However what I don't like about this map is the fact that the fields start on a 45-degree hill at 4k (5k?). That's just dumb. As was mentioned the guys respawning have the advantage over everybody that just killed them. I'd rather the fields were dropped to a more respectable 1k to 2k (enough for a shallow dive but not so much that a plane with speed can't zoom up to ya).
Tank Town doesn't spawn you instantly behind the enemy GV, why should Fighter Town drop you higher and faster directly above the enemy? Seems to be bad form, if you ask me.
Make folks climb out and make folks able to glide back if they can. I once lost 3 parts and had 1 minute of gas left but was almost unable to land because I had to climb 5K up a hill to land. That's dumb planning.
P.S. Yep, I landed, barely.

short version is they fixed the fighter town on the doughnut map making it more difficult to capture those bases. Huge furball in there last night, lots of targets, even I got two kills, got killed 7 or 8 times getting those.

Darn its hard to land kills in FT, but it did shake some of the rust off my SA.
Cant wait to do it again!!:aok

I don't mind the guys launching from higher up, I see it as a disadvantage because they are always dropping in with a speed disadvantage which makes for a nice overshoot kill most of the time.
I had to climb 5K up a hill to land
Yeah kind of a bummer, but just makes you have to plan better while fighting and choose your egress correctly.

I've not logged into the main in a while. I've been too busy planning BOB06 stuff. What did they do to the map?
-
Krusty, they didnt do anything but disbale jeep, m3, and c47 at the 3 center bases
No rational reason why that should make such a huge difference, but it did...maybe it was just that for the first time, nobody was trying to disable this or capture that. Everybody just flew and fought.
And had a heck of a good time.

Lol, I racked up 27 assists yesterday. I cant count the number of times I thought I had a bogie to myself, and they went down before, or as I got a shot lined up. It must be fun though, I logged 40 sorties in FT yesterday.
What do I know though? From what I read Im a picker. Didn't feel like one landing 5 with an oil leak, after circling through the trees in a constant 2v1 until every plane was dead except for me. But whatever :)
-
hello ther murdr, well I feel better then. I thought I might be the most helpful person what with all the assists I got. I'm not real sure if you are a *picker* but the kill and numerous assists I got on you yesterday were me picking you (sort of) as you picked. you were always above and in a fast dive in a C-hog. I was in a 109 G6 or k4.

Yep... lots of fun.... LOTS of assists.
I don't care about the alt or e advantage thing... I allways tend to go down to the fight as soon as I clear the runway anyhow. I was in the lowest and slowest plane with the weakest guns in every fight I was in it seemed except for the few times I ran into some nut in a hurri 1 or spit one or p40..
Lots of fun... didn't care if I landed the kills... you can ditch tho pretty easy if you don't want to give somenone the kill just for chuckels...
There will allways be guys who think they need the fastest planes with the biggest guns no matter what the situation.... It's their money tho. They don't bother me near as much in FT as in the rest of the ma.
Try being a BK and flying with other BK's if you want to see frustration.... the cruel a holes all steal my kills.

yep... dichotomy and inominate get it. I assume they are new. A lot of "vets" don't get FT tho.. they go there in the fastest plane they can get and hang out high waiting for a risk free kill and then running..
bad deal but... it takes all kinds. FT is a place to set your hair on fire and not have time to blink for hours.... not to pad your score. It is a place to sharpen your sa.... not just do the same old timid things you do in other maps. It is not a place that you need to runnway dive in. but... people do it... vets do it.
I salute the newbies who went there and duked it out. they will be rewarded by a better understanding and... by gaining some skill.
I salute the ones I "pick" on here that went there and congradulate the ones who got to kill me there. How you kill me is your business but as you get good you even start thinking about that.... a fight where both guys are trying their hardest is lots more satisfying than an vultch say... but any kill in the mess of a furball is great..
If there were a FT in every map... I would spend most of my time in em but not all... If there were a good cv fight or good close field fight I would maybe do that for a while. It's all about choice.
It just happens that in this map... the only one with a FT... It comes around so seldom that I have never bothered to waste precious time even looking at the rest of it seriously.
Festers map is good enough that there is some choice without a FT most of the time... other maps, as inominate says, could be just as good and please (or at least not disgust) most players.

That was the biggest surprise to me the last couple nights. Granted I'm dumb enough to take a 38G low into FT, but that's what I remember it being, a low alt furball.
The pickers were there in abundance and guys were way up there. Lots of shoot and scoot going on.

Fighter town is the best place for building a good understanding of sa, no doubt. I enjoy seeing the newbs improving their skills, and the great sticks flying their signature rides. It is rare in a typical ma situation that you get a chance to test your skills against the "Great ones". I find myself wondering why do some of you guys insist on on vulching in fighter town LOL???:huh
-
you assume correctly laz.. 2.5 months in game. I got clobbered last night in FT... either new throttle (final piece of my CH setup WOOHOO!!!) or too many cheap beers or a combo of both. Still nothing but a good time in my book. And I totally agree on the 'best place to learn SA' statements. I found out where some blind spots were and figured out how to counter them so, anytime there's a fightertown on the map and I'm on other than sqad nights, that's where I'll be.
Uber... me vulch? :lol I'm doing good to make it around the perimeter of the furball much less to another base :aok

I hope you did not think I was refering to you bro I just find it amusing in general that some of the guys go through all that effort to fly in behind the base to interdict something that should not be. It is a static practice arena with concequences. Which helps everyone build up sa&acm.
-
ya but the furballers like myself coplain about TT i mean thats even more boring lol. who wants to sit around for 30 minutes and watch a car go by. im srry but id rather test my skill in the FT. That FT really hits the spot. its the most fun i ever have when that map comes up.

Tank Town has it's own rewards too.... I personally would like to see both represented in a map.:aok

nahh brother... just making a self depricating joke :aok
Here's why I personally love the fightertown map. Life is busy under the best of circumstances and I think this game is great. But I don't necessarily have the time to say 'okay tonight I'm going to play for at least two hours'. I tested this theory out the other night before the map switched. In order to get up from a non vulched base and get to where the fight was took me approximately 20 minutes. I, of course, got killed in about 30 seconds. Now the fightertown map I can get up and get in several fights in the time it takes me on the non fightertown maps and get my, for lack of a better word, fix.
I have no axe to grind with the strat rats and, if I have time to participate in a base capture or two, I'd be more than happy to join. But when I just want to up and fight the fightertown gives me that option which makes this a more complete entertainment experience for me.
In addition getting killed in FT.. big deal. If the phone rings, the kids need something, the she devil wants to talk to me, or whatever.. okay get killed go back to the tower and not feel like I've been interrupted in something I have a large amount of time invested in.
So please Hitech give some serious thought to making a FT in every map.
That's just my .02
I'm not going to gripe, whine, name call, throw a tantrum, or quit, if you don't.
I might, however, bring a case of your favorite brew to your office if you do :)

been in FT every day mostly in the Ki61 with the exception of a few sorties I have ended in cartoon death. I've had some great fights. the most memorable was with cerberos, he in a spitwadI and I in the Ki61 he got the best of me and only at the very end did wilbuz and his roving horde of cherry pickers jump in. cerberos got the kill. great fight sir and I hope run into you in FT again.
