I'm about to pass out with fear as I write this. This morning I go to have my final 2 wisdom teeth, the bottom impacted ones, cut out.
So if you see me in the arena later on today and I'm acting strange or like a bastard, I'm either drugged out on pain killers or hurting like a mo'fo.
at least their going to give me an IV and hit me with dimerol to knock me out. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to talk them into a shot of valium first, to "calm" me down (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Being a big popsicle has it's benefits (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
No food or drink 12 hrs b4 surgery!!!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) do you have any idea how thirsty you can get when you don't get a drink of water in the morning?!?!?!?!?!

I put up with the misery of having all four wisdom teeth go bad on me over the space of 3 years, and put off having anything done about it.
I finally went and did exactly what you are doing. They knocked me out with IV drugs (wow, that's some good chit, man). Three of mine were impacted, had to be cut out, broken up with a chisel, etc.
I woke up about an hour later with my mouth packed full of cotton, and my girlfriend drove me home. I pulled out the cotton, started rinsing with warm salt water every 15 minutes or so.
The next day I was kicking my own bellybutton for putting it off as long as I did. They gave me a killer prescription for Darvons to help the pain. I took one, and flushed the rest.
You're gonna be fine, Udie. No sweat (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Strange, I just had two wisdom teeth pulled last week; left side top and bottom. Mine weren't impacted though so it was just a lunch time crank and yank. Since I was awake I could hear that "Hollywood crunching lettuce" sound when they were being pulled. Eeewwww!
The only time I got worried was when the dentist put his left foot on my forehead for leverage.
Just kidding!
You'll be fine. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
-
Oh boy, I had all 4 of mine done at once.
The bottom two were impacted and the roots had somehow wrapped around a nerve in my jaw (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
Anyway, I took the happy gas, got the IV and was sleepy time. Woke up an hour later, got driven home and then rinsed out those gaping holes in my mouth (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Actually its not too bad, but just don't look at that craftsman chisel and hammer beside the chair (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
The Dentist did have a hell of time chippin' those bottom ones out though.

YOu better hope they get every fragment out, they didn't in my case, and I had fragments pushing thru for 3 months after, which made any other sort of pain insignificant compared to sharp shards of tooth working their way thru infected gum tissue.

Interesting story about gettin wisdom teeth pulled and AH....
I started playing AH last summer. The reason I finally signed up was that I had nothing to do but stay home and rest after all 4 of my wisdom teeth were pulled out. So my first days of AH I was flyin half numb on painkillers with a bunch of bloody gauze stuck in my mouth. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) hehe
-
Ouch.
Do all Wisdom teeth end up causing you problems? And how many are you supposed to have?
I think I've got my last one coming through now - I really ought to see a dentist, I haven't been to one for about 1 year but she said the other wisdom teeth had come through fine (she said I had a big mouth, the cheeky cow (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)).
Hmmm... I'll go book an appointment now. Thanks for such an informative thread. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Dowding, if your wisdom teeth have come in straight and fine, there will be no need to have them removed. The reason folks have them removed is usually because their jaw line won't allow for the proper grow of the said Wisdom tooth...now, in your case, where your shoe fits just fine in your mouth, it should be no problem (Just kidding! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)) <S>

Pain? What are you guys talking about? You must have picked a bad dentist. I got all four of mine (impacted) removed at once, without IV drugs. I just told the guy there's no such thing as too much novicane and he went to work. Sounded a lot like Rice Krispies every time he broke one up, but I couldn't feel a thing. Went home the same day with a bottle of painkillers. I only took two the first night because the cotton balls in the back of my head were getting into the holes in my jaw. After that it was smooth sailing. Hell, I was smoking a cigarette in the car on my way home, and even stopped off at Fred Meyer's for a Mighty Mighty Boss Tones CD!!
I can't take IV drugs to put me out because I get violently ill from them. Hence the 5 vials of novicane. All in all I've had more pain from a root canal than from getting four teeth busted up and torn out. I talked to the guy, as best I could anyway, while he worked. It didn't bother me in the least, and he was cracking jokes to boot. A bled a little more than usual, but it wasn't anything to be concerned about. Not a bad experience for me in the least.
Udie, don't drink ANY cold liquids. They cause a pain spike from hell (I know, I tried a soda two days after I had them pulled. OUCH!!!!). Don't eat anything that can easily get into the holes that WILL be left in your jaw. French fries, mashed potatoes, anything along those lines is a no-no. Kick back, relax, pop in a good movie or play your guitar. And make DAMN sure they give you painkillers just in case. Don't take them unless you actually NEED them, and if you don't need them the first week, toss 'em out.

Heh, I set myself up for that one, funny man. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
I understand the word 'impacted' now - I understand even more the pain that must cause. Thanks for the info. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Good luck, Udie. I remember when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. They gave me novacaine and laughing gas. My teeth were so impacted it felt like they had to use dynamite to loosen them up and when the oral surgeon stood on my chest to pull out the last pieces, well, that was more than I could take. Damn near killed me.
Hope yours came out easier than mine!

I'm asking for GAS, NOVACAINE AND NARCOTICS!!!!!
What kind of stuff can I eat? I didn't have any problems with the upper 2, but those holes where at the top of my mouth not the bottom.
PS. Thanks for the stories guys it's helping me be less worried (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Apple sauce, ice cream, and maybe yogurt... not sure on yogurt because that has a bacteria catalyst.
I have 4 wisdom teeth I need pulled... and I am NOT looking forward to it. I keep putting it off.

Hopefully you don't get a 'dry socket' (no,not THAT type of dry socket) during your healing process, that, my friend, is no fun at all.
I hope this is reassuring to all of you. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
Had the first two done by a dentist. Three hours in the chair, and big time pain for the next week. (Did manage to quit smoking though.)
Next two were done by an oral surgeon. Fifteen minutes and no sweat.
Sounds like you've got the right plan, Udie. GL!

Udie,
One other thing. Be leary of any drug that will make you nauseous. The LAST thing you want to do after this surgery is vomit (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hehehe, tech school in the Air Force was in Chanute back in the late 70's. They must of had a dentist training school there also because if you even hinted of having a bad wisdom tooth they would yank them suckers out. I bet 15% of my flight had theirs yanked. It was so funny walking around the base and looking at all the people with their head swollen up like a beaver.
I tell ya one thing back then going to a "trainee" dentist from the Air Force was no fun at all. I went for a filling one time and I thought I was going to gag to death because I couldn't spit. The kangaroo doctor was to busy flirting with his 19 year old nurse and trying to look up her dress. What a nightmare... but I guess you get what ya pay for (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Had 4 wisdom teeth removed at same time. Two were fully impacted by having turned so the top was facing the front of my mouth. The upper ones hadn't erupted yet and the dentist went poking up in my sinus cavities for them. I was fully out of it for the surgery. Thank God for Tylenol 3's. Two of them at a time kept me pain free.
Udie, good luck. Use plenty of salt water to rinse your mouth and do it frequently. Follow ALL of the doc's instructions as you do NOT want to have him go back in there! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
If you are playing in a day or so. Let me know. I could use an easy kill!!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

All's well so far (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Just got up at home from a nice nap. Still bleeding like a stuck pig from the right hole, but the left one looks like it's clotted (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I'm still REAL groggy from the Dimeral (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif) but I haven't felt much pain yet so I'm happy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

gawd dont scare me, ive got mine to be pulled out in a month or 2.. and I know that 1 of them (top right) seems to have "flipped" and has gone UPWARDS into the bone than downwards (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
They'd better put me under.. completely. I aint gonna stay several hours with someone hammering my teeth (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Just had mine checked out a couple of months ago. My dentist said the lower two are coming in nicely and shouldn't need to be pulled, and the upper two never even developed! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Tac,
One of the nice things about being a cop and visiting the dentist was the ability to say: We aren't going to hurt each other, are we??
Once he sent in a sweet young thing he hired as a hygienist to try and get my gun. I told her she could have the knife but I was keeping the gun! We got along just fine <evil grin>

I had all 4 of mine done at the same time, and it was done under a general anaesthetic because they were really badly placed. I was on Egg Nog for the best part of a week.
-
I had FIVE teeth pulled at once. the 4 wisdom and 3rd top tooth on the left was impacted, so they yanked it out too. Sucked having the stitches on the roof of my mouth, but that wasn't the worst. I actually either totally didn't respond to the anti-swelling medicine or was allergic to it, because I fully close my jaw for 4 days, THAT sucked royally!! I still maintain to this day that the best meal I ever had was the grilled cheese sandwich after I was finally able to chew again! I was 15 when I had mine done.
Oh yeah, about 10 hrs after getting home, I started puking for about 3-4 hrs straight!
Anyways, it's been a few days since you've had yours done, so how ya holding up??? My friend got his down about 4 hours ago, hope he's doing ok! hehe

Was he talking about your breasts?

Heh.
I had all 4 of mine done at once. 2 were impacted, other 2 were halfway there.
I didn't have a general, but they shot me up with valium or something. I was awake, but I just didn't feel a thing or give a toejam. That was some excellent watermelon they shot me up with. I was nervous, but the nurse told me "Once I give you this, I'm going to hold up these big pliers and ask if it's OK to rip those teeth out of your head. You'll say yes." I was doubtful, but sure enough... just as it started to take effect, she held up the really big nasty looking tools and asked if the doctor could rip the teeth out now. I said sure. Ok, I said "Ssssssssssssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurr rrrrrreeeeeeeeee..... <drool>."
Milkshakes, eggnog, floats, and pudding for a few days. Then very careful with what I ate for a week, and I was OK. It's a good excuse to eat icecream for every meal. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Had all 4 removed at the same time, all impacted. Nitrous Oxide and Novecaine, baby!
I was awake throughout, and they kept asking me if I wanted the Nitrous turned down, but I kept saying "turn it up, turn it up!" (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Great stuff, that Nitrous.
