This is a first in-engine screenshot of Oleg’s BOB. This is on lowest settings.
Oleg -Translation:
Sometimes you'll be starting in the hangar, and taxiing to the runway. Please keep in mind that this is the very first in-engine shot you're seeing. Shadows and lighting are mostly turned off. The plane is also not fully textured.

The planes in BoB will have dynamic weathering effects applied to them - you'll see exhaust stains growing, paint chipping away as you fly, etc; and also there'll be bump mapping and other technical sounding effects that make the planes much more detailed and life-like. All those features are turned off in this version of the engine, although they are fully working in engine tools.
So you're basically seeing the bare underpaint of the Spitfire, without any of the cool extra effects that have never been done in any other sim! This is what it'll look like on the minimum graphic settings. [/QB]
Release date : Autumn 2007.

That is truly nice.
Any changes besides graphics?
-
Will there be a 3d cockpit? Or just a bunch of flat 2-dimensional screens?
-
That's very nice. Will it be a functional set of guages or just a static picture? I wonder what the terrain will be like and what kind of machine you'll need to get a decent frame rate.
-
I can read the instruments which is already an improvement.
The question is does this game got rid of its "killer feature": pilot head on a stick.
The view system in IL2 series is as bad as it gets.
-
Laser,
FB series already featured 3D cockpits, I don't think Bob would be any different.
-
I didn't mean that the cockpit itself was 3d. I meant that if you moved your POV 6 inches to the left in any Il2 game you'd see that the cockpit is just a whole bunch of flat screens perfectly aligned for the head on stick syndrome.
-
I could only dream of moving my head 6" to the left.:lol
-
There isn't much info availble yet. Pits will be 3d with 6DOF support. BoB will have dynamic weather. Damage model will show one for one hits. Today's best computers will be BoB's lowest requirment :D
-
Thats pretty.
As much as I don't like the Il2 games, I like that he is doing them. Keeps the genre alive.
-
All those beautiful dials and gages, yet you need none of them to play IL2. In fact, one of the most prominent and preferred features of IL2 is the ability to TURN OFF cockpit view.
Go figure......

set options to realistic and you will have to use those beautiful dials and gages.

I fly in Full Switch (all switches right) 'wars' over in Il2 and we have to read the gages to know how high, how fast etc...
I can read them in all the planes fine. It maybe your res or AA settings.
Now some of the gages, in some planes, get blocked due to the single head position but all the gages are readable, at least to me. To get by with the blocked gages some servers allow 'speed bar' which will puts a small block of text in the lower left corner that shows speed, heading alt etc...

That's not an Il2 'feature'. That's how all games were done until AH came along. Most still are that way. However, with track IR and 6DOF most games are moving toward free head movement. SOW:BOB will have 6DOF.

Hardly, that's only an issue if you play on servers with the switches to the left.

Lots of them listed over the months but I don't feel like searching the UBI zoo to find them.
I for one am kind of bored with the whole 'BoB set-up' (boring plane set and theater) but will still pick it up for the future expansions. Oleg has said that if you can play FB on the highest graphic settings then you will be able play BoB on the lowest. It will be some time before BoB is released.
-
speaking of boring plane set and theater, imagine IL2 graphics with a Dr.1, S.E.5a, D.VII, Sopwith Camel, Nieuport 28........Perhaps Oleg could even go out on a limb here and provide unique engine and gun sounds for the various aircraft and armaments (since there are a relatively low number of airframe types to deal with).
Hmm...wonder if Oleg has considered other eras? you IL2 junkies know of anytalk about a Korean war set? Vietnam? Arab Israeli wars? Gulf war? all sorts of material here :D
-
doubt I'll be able to play it on my system.

You mean this:
WWI sim, based on the IL-2 engine announced (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=144;t=001669)
Dr. 1

:p
Actually, it has transformed to a stand alone with it's own engine since that thread started...

Ive book marked the HQ forum for future reference. This reminds me of the Tiger vrs T34 tank battle sim thats under development from some innocuous russian software company. Looks awesome but I wonder three things: Will it ever be released? Will it only be released in Russia, and will I ever be able to buy it.

The outlook is good for TvsT. Most likely from my POV, it will be released similar to T72BoF.
-
cool finish, didnt realised DR I's left the factory like that. Thanks Straffo!
-
I really hope that WW1 sim comes to fruition, its past due we get one from somebody. :)
God bless the Russians for at least trying, all we get over here are stupid arcade shoot em ups and shoot-my-pimp sims.
HTC the exception of course :aok
-
Well, Il-2 makes nice screenshots :D
But plane setup boring in the BoB? Nononononono.
(just a bit boring for the axis) :D

Oh heck no. I can't wait to see/fly the 110 in this game.
My leather lederhosen are starched and waiting.
